Question Heat waves

Recently it has gotten so hot outside and so muggy that I have had to move my rabbit, and pigger into the basement. We do not have air conditing, but our basement is cool. I want to build a large cage to replace the store bought one I have, should I use the old store bought cage to keep him in on hot days and nights? I wont keep him in the basement all year round because he would get lonely. What is everyones thoughts? Are there anyways around this problem?

Re: Heat waves

A large C&C will be much cooler than a small store bought cage.

Do some searches for the heat issue on the forums, there is a lot of information.

Re: Heat waves

True. a big cage with an open top will be more airy and cooler. There are LOADS of ways to keep piggys cool, so yeh do a search.

Re: Heat waves

I will thank you, it was just the biggest thing on my mind, as Smudgee was sitting in my lap from being upstairs. I had to move his cage last night, and he doesn't like being out of my room. he gets depressed, and wont come out of his pigloo.

Re: Heat waves

You can put a fan with ice infront of it (not directly on pigs, but near them) to cool them down. They make nice small air condition units now that could cool just a bedroom. I had to get one for my pigs. My house gets really hot in the summer. They are much happier with the air conditioning. The small units are not that expensive either. :0)
