Silly Question about Cavy Cages I've been browsing the site and wondered, could a piggie get out of the cavy cage? Are they able to climb the sides. I really don't think they could but I do want to make sure. Thanks!

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages IF you have a younger pig or male pigs next to females, with a determined male they could possibly, for the most part, they don't really want out.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages They can't really climb. But if you put a hidey house near the edge and they jump on top, they could jump over.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Pups can squeeze through the grids if you don't baby proof the cages. There are very few pigs who actually climb out of a C&C. Mine have hidey houses right next to the sides and even though Moppy sits on top of the one house all the time, she has never attempted to jump out, but there are those few curious piggies who may try to venture up and over the grids.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages You'll get the occasional curious pig who likes to climb. Mine was so clever that he'd push the hidey house to the side of the cage and climb out! Just keep an eye out for clever behavior like this - chances are it won't happen. If you're worried, put a top on the cage when you're not home.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages If your cage isn't too big and the climbing becomes a problem... you can just make a cover for the top. I am doing this only because I have 2 cats (Who don't go into my room) but I can't take the risk.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Thanks for all the replies....I don't currently own a piggie but want to. I just wanted to get some information before I actually get a oh-so-cute piggie.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Mine jump onto their houses. If jumping is a problem, you can either make a lid, or you can make the sides extra-high with an access door (just cable-tie so that the grids swing out) so you can still reach the piggies. If you're researching, you've come to the right place! Another great place to learn about cavies is at www.guinealynx.info. Good luck!

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Zorro's a jumper; he's broken his leg twice by randomly jumping off people. We hold him on the FLOOR now!

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages 2 of my piggies are also jumpers and I can't even leave their cage open for to long, because my girl, Taz, will jump on her futon and then jump out of the cage. This is kinda funny though, because after she jumps out she immediately wants back in the cage and tries to climb back in. This at least lets me know that they do like their home.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages My pigs have never climbed the cage walls. I used to have a cage top because of the cats but they never go near the pigs and are even afraid of them. (I have woosy cats apparently). It's way easier to clean the cage without a cover on it.

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages if a pig has a giant cage, with food and toys why would it want to?

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages That is not true! I have a C&C pen in the garden, it's gigantic and is full of toys. Ascot has managed to escape over 10 times. The crafty little bugger - he gets his nose into one of the squares, tosses it up and runs underneath. He's so crafty - he did today. However, I think he's probably an exception

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Curious, exploring pigs just always think the proverbial hay is greener on the other side of the fence! By the way, Zorro has not tried to climb out since the arrival over a year ago of his favorite new cagemate. Good company makes the difference!

Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Oh no, my boys ADORE each other. When ascot noses the cage up, Furlong tries to do the same. Although his chubbyness really slows him down so he isn't always able to make it out of the cage! Like I said in another post, a few days back I found them both asleep in the flower bed!

| Re: Silly Question about Cavy Cages Quote:
Their newest "trick" is lining up all 3 of the hidey houses in their cage. There's a pigloo, cardboard box and the wooden hutch. (and a cuddle cup but that stays in the corner) All lined up for easy access to the water bottle. Lazy piggies. |
