Question Air Conditioner?

I live in Indonesia, so it's pretty warm most of the time. It doesn't get too warm in my room during the day, but I turn the AC on in the evening/night when I'm home for comfort. I don't have any piggies yet, but I'm planning on getting a couple. The problem is that the only place I can put the cage is pretty directly where the AC blows. Is that likely to lead to colds? I don't turn the AC up very high, but it will be blowing air on them. Let me know what you think, please? I want what's best for them, but I have space limitations.

Re: Air Conditioner?

You can't put the pigs cage in front of the AC blower. They could get sick from it being too cold.

Maybe you can look around your place and move furniture around to fit a cage in another spot?

Re: Air Conditioner?

Thanks for answering! I'm really looking for other ways to arrange things, but I'm really limited by my room. I can point the AC straight down if I need to, but it won't cool the room very well. Could I put a wall between the pigs and the AC? Like some extra cube walls with Coroplast lining to block the air?

Re: Air Conditioner?

Just to clarify--cold does not make pigs (or any animal) sick. Bacteria, viruses, etc. do that. Cold can however stress pigs and make them more susceptible to illness.

Yes, I think it is fine to put a wall between the AC and the cage so that they don't have air blowing directly on them. Even just clipping a towel to that side of the cage would probably work. Just make sure that the other sides of the cage are not blocked off so there will still be some airflow. If possible, it would be best to make the wall removable so you only put it up when the AC is on.

Re: Air Conditioner?

Would it be possible to buy a table or make a stand to put the pig cage on? It could be over the AC unless that's too tall. Do you have a dresser or desk you could put the cage on?

Re: Air Conditioner?

Thanks for the suggestions! Akstrohm, I like the idea of a towel, although I'll probably build that wall taller for extra protection and leave the towel removable. CavyLuver516, I'm planning to buy a table already, but the AC is at the ceiling, so I can't put the cage above it.

Re: Air Conditioner?

Amiee, can you put the cage directly under the AC unit and direct the airflow up a little? That way it will not blow on them directly and will still cool your room. A light cover, like a sheet over the top, should keep them cozy and comfy.

I used to live in Thailand so I know how AC is installed there. It's a bad idea to put the pigs under the AC because sometimes they drip.

I wonder how the pigs could tolerate the weather there. It's mostly over 88F (31C) all day everyday. Will they have to live in AC all year round?

Re: Air Conditioner?

By the way, I know I was talking about different countries. But they're close enough, and in the same climate.

Ok...I figured it would be too tall unless it was an AC like the ones in hotels.
