Dogs.... and Guinea Pigs?

Hello Everyone,

So there's a cute Cairn Terrier at the shelter at the moment! I would love to bring him into my home, but as you know I have 4 guinea pigs in open C&C cages. If I put a lid on my stacked cages, would he be able to get in? I know that Cairn's are very mischievous and they will get bored easily.... I just don't want to risk it though for the sake of the piggies and me.

I would also strengthen the entire cage with heavy duty zip ties. Even then though, I wouldn't leave the new dog alone with the cages. So, if they're in a common area, you should have a place to put your dog when you aren't home, or move the pigs to a room where you can shut the door.

Re: Dogs.... and Guinea Pigs?

At one time when we thinking of getting cats, I was considering even adding a padlock to the cage lid. You know one of those ones that are like 4 numbers, and then writing that number on the side of the cage, so I couldn't forget it. As puppies and kitties can't read. But that keeps them from nudging it open or knocking a weight off.

Re: Dogs.... and Guinea Pigs?

I have big dogs and one small terrior. I have 6 pigs at the moment. I have lids on all of my c&c cages. I have not had any problems with the dogs or the cats trying to get in the cage. I used the shelves from Home Depot as lids as recommended on the home page.
