Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using garden/flower dividers to use as the 'walls' for your cage instead of those wire grids? I have had these now for almost 3 weeks and there has been no problem, I wanted to check with everyone that they are safe. The other 3 sides are proper walls, so I have constructed the one side with these plastic divider thingies. They dont ever chew on them and have not tried jumping over them or pushing through them. I did have it on the ground for a while and my one boy did try to stick his head out of it but ever since I have put their cage on top of a table there seems to be no problem because they cant see a space for them to run to (as its on the edge of the table) The reason I am asking now is that I just want to be sure about using this stuff and also because I want to expand the cage even more than it is now by buying another table and lining it up with the other one. I havnt tried the cubes yet and could change to using that, I had just started using this stuff because I didnt know any better at that stage. Here is the picture of what it looks like. Please let me know if anyone has tried this and if it was successful. Thanks |

The only concern I would have is that the spacing on the bars is wide enough for them to get their heads caught causing strangulation. I would measure it and make sure it is no bigger than 1.5 inches assuming they are adults. If they are under six months I would want the spacing smaller. |

Ok, thanks Peggysu, they are a little bigger than 1.5 inches...they dont seem to want to stick their heads through because they cant see firm ground on the other side... but its obviously best to be safe, I will get the grids |

Bigger then 1.5 inches is risking it. You don't want to come home to an injured piggie. |

Much better! Plus I added on extra space by pushing up a table next to the other one and now they are the happiest piggies ever! Its an extra 600sq inches that got added on but it makes a big difference. The store cage is their kitchen. The black thing in the foreground is black fleece covering a folded grid. I have seen lots of people on this forum do this for an extra hidey so I copied that idea and Oh my WORD, I underestimated how much they would LOVE love it! They run at the speed of light around their new expanded area and use the covered grid as a tunnel to go careening through and of course they also use it to lie down in. So thanks for the awesome ideas everyone has given me! |

Hurray! Mine loves to zoom through tunnels too! It's such a great feeling to see them run and popcorn. Congratulations on a great cage makeover! I think you'll find you'll enjoy it as much as them. |
