cat proofing?

Ok I was wondering do I have to have the shelving as a lid or can I use extra grids? Because I have a cat, she doesn't bother them but she will get on top of the cage so I whant to be careful. Thanx for the help!

Re: cat proofing?

I have used extra grids zip-tied together and secured with large binder clips. I also have some dowel supports to help re-enforce. My cat is about 5kg and it holds well as she often sits on the top. I think there is a photo in my gallery of her on the cage.

Re: cat proofing?

My cat likes just watching the pigs, so I decided just incase her curiosity got the best of her one day, I needed a top on the cage. I have a 3x3 with a 1x2 loft, and the other open back grid is where the ramp is. I have the entire lid made with extra grids. I have the 2 that are over my loft ziptied only to the very back wall, so that it can swing open, and the other one is zip tied on the other 3 sides. To keep it closed I just use a simple Velcro strap that they use to organize cords and such and it works just fine. Then the middle row of grids are completely ziptied on all 4 sides and the front 3 grids can also swing open by ziptying the back side of them only, and then I lock it with the velcro strap. Here's a few pictures.

Whole cage, the black grids are the doors.

That is how the strap works.

That is how the back works. I dont have it locked though with the strap in that picture.
