Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I love the idea of these cages, whoever invented them was a genuis! I have a few questions to ask though. With the open cages will the GP's nto try and climb out? If I make one of these I will also have a run outside so they can get some sun and grass, does anyone else do this? Thanks in advance. Hayley. |

Guinea pigs are not like hamsters and rats in the sense that they need to climb. They require lots of floor space to run, while rat cages can go upward, as they climb. So, there's not much of a chance of a piggie climbing or jumping out of a C&C unless it's a boar trying to get to a sow. An excited boar can do anything. Making a pen to put them on the lawn with is a great idea, if the lawn is unfertilized. Fertilizers are deadly to them, so the grass needs to be untreated. It also needs to be no hotter than 85 degrees F because heat stroke comes on quickly. If you do decide to give them time outside, you have to watch them at all times, and make sure that no predators are around to harm them. |

Pigs very rarely climb, though a very few are known to be climbers. If you have cats, dogs, etc or any predator animals that could potentially get near the pigs, you'll want a lid on your cage though. And of course, if you have a boar near sows. |
