Are pigloos safe?

Hi, I have a pigloo and my pigs like to chew it. Because of that, I don't leave it in the cage. Should I? I've seen these things get chewed apart at petstores, shouldn't it hurt the pigs if they eat it? Right now they have a cardboard box as a hide-away on the top floor but nothing on the bottom, can I give them the pigloo?

Re: Are pigloos safe?

Pigloos shoudl be safe my pig used to chew on hers until I learned to give her hay all day long. So provide them with something they should chew and see if it helps.

Re: Are pigloos safe?

we do provide them hay and pellets 24/7, as well as veggies (and some fruits) from the charts. they chew apart the cardboard box too, but i figured it has to be safer than the plastic from the pigloo....

Re: Are pigloos safe?

I am not sure if it is safe or not! My piggies don't chew their pigloo. Mine love to chew cardboard though, and I believe that is safe enough for them.

I am sure one of the Mods will be along to help answer your question about the pigloo.

Good Luck!

Re: Are pigloos safe?

Mine chew on their pigloos but don't really ever get chunks off. They just leave teeth marks on them. I have had the pigloos for over 2 years and never had a problem.Pigs like to chew. Lots and lots of people here have pigloos here and I have never heard of a pigloo injury. Piggies love their pigloos.

Re: Are pigloos safe?

My pigs have pulverized their pigloo (look in my gallery photos for it). They don't seem to be able to get big enough pieces off to cause injury or health issues and the tiny pieces they must have eaten have all passed without problem. Personally, I don't see the pigloos as a danger even if they voraciously chew them.

Re: Are pigloos safe?

My pig does literally everything to her pigloo. Very multifunctional product, if you ask me. She's peed on it- have absolutely no clue how- but on the roof of the little "nook" that sticks out, there's a few white spots! She sleeps in it, chews it, and poos in it. And no problems what-so-ever with her health, so I definitely give it an A-Ok for safety!

Re: Are pigloos safe?

Well, I put the pigloo back since I have opened this thread. Oddly, I haven't heard that tell-tale scraping noise that tells me they are sharpening their teeth on the thing. In fact, ever since I put in the pigloo they stopped chewing the cardboard box too...weird
