Question about where my cage is. My Guinea-pig cage is down in the basement, and I'm wondering if this is a good location, part of my family is allergic to guinea-pig fur. But i was just wondering. Thanks! Kristal

Re: Question about where my cage is. I'm guessing it's a finished basement - ie used as part of the house? If it is it's probably fine, although it might be a little cooler, and they may not get as much attention from people walking past etc. Are you sure they're allergic to piggy hair? It could be bedding or hay, so you could try using fleece and maybe feed hay in a paper bag to stop the dust spreading as much to see if this helps.

Re: Question about where my cage is. It really depends on the basement. Make sure there are no dramatic humidity or temperature fluctuations (such as from washing machines or poor insulation), no dust or mold, and plenty of sunlight. If it's a clean, stable environment you should be fine.

Re: Question about where my cage is. Ya they are allergic to her hair. and its not a finished basement we've yet to get sheet rock up on the inner walls but as far as a can tell there are no drafts, and ya it is cooler down there. Well any way thanks. oh and no the basement is not part of the house. no body lives down there. it is where we keep our guinea-pig and hamsters and gerbils, and our water system is down there
