Animal Proofing: Cat Proofing?

I will need to keep my cat in my bedroom now on so I was wondering how to make Kiwi's 2x4 c&c cage cat proofed.

Do I just buy the wire shelving at home depot and use that, or can the cat get her throught hte grids on the side? She is very friendly and will come up to the edge of the cage to see my cat and he will try to attack her, so i will never let them be together.

The cat will come out of my bedroom while she has her playtime and while my rats play(7am, 5pm, 7pm)and so the cat will go in another bedroom but its because my aunts dog who tries to kill cats and other animals besides dogs is coming over for a few weeks...

Help!?!
Do you have any pictures of cat proofed cages that show step by step instructions?

Hello,

What about making your cage a large wooden hutch? Hutch's a good, they have a great deisgn, but petstore ones are way to small. Your cat shouldn't be able to get in, and your Guinea Pig should love it. As for floor time, why not just close your bedroom door for that time?

My cat doesn't really like my Guinea Pig, she sniffs it, sneezes and walks away. Its kind of weird, but she's a great cat, and I'm grateful she doesn't try to attack it or anything.

Hutches are definitely not recommended as they take up far more room if you are able to build one yourself, and are far more expensive in any case. They also smell as they just soak up the urine and this can cause possible respiratory problems.

In the gallery there are pictures of enclosed cages, the wire shelving or leftover cubes make an ideal top - just make sure that only you can open it and not your cat! You may find your cat likes sitting on top of it but the piggies will soon get used her

Wire tops are just fine. I had left over cubes so I just zip-tied them together and put that on top of the cage when I was away. Soon enough the cats lost interest in the pigs and I can leave the door open and they don't jump in. (knock on wood)

I am the ssame way. My kitten sleeps in the same room with me and my pigs, so during the day i have the door closed and the cages open, and when i go to sleep i close the cages up. My cat is slowly losing all interest. But yesterday i did catch him in the cage with my piggies! But he was just watching.

Yeah my one cat Cosmo, the more curious one, has jumped in there but it was because she looooves the fleece bedding and just lays on it. I just worry that she would accidently hurt the pigs so I try to keep her out with the cover.

Personally, I think re-doing the cage with mesh cubes is the best long-term option. They prevent the cat from being able to reach into the cage even a little bit. I used them to make a rat cage and it keeps my one dog and three cats away with no problems. (Which is good, because my rats aren't scared of anything!)

My cats and Guinea Pigs are friends but definently dont use a hutch.

My cat wants NOTHING to do with my GPs, however when she comes anywhere near the cage the piglets poke their noses thru the cage & coo in excitement. I would never actually trust my cat to be alone in a room with the pigs, but I feel a bit safer knowing she isn't openly curious-

Thank you everybody for the replies. It turned out that Ginger, the 'attack' dog, never came so I didn't need the cat in my room. But you all have great suggestions and if the cat ever does have to stay in my room I will use the wire shelving to cover it.
