| babies I read on the main page something about safety with babies in C & C cages, and I was going to build one for my piggies.. a mom and 3 babies, they are 3 weeks old now but they'll be older when I have it built. Is there something I need to do to make it safe for them? |

| Switch to cubees with smaller openings (i've seen them at Target where the regular cubes are located)... and you can make the coroplast base higher also |

 It's really not up to the age of the piggies, it's all about their size. If they're big, you can put them in sooner than if they grow more slowly. You can also double up the grids, overlapping them so that the holes are half as big. Just attach w/cable ties. Then, cut the ties off when you are sure your piggies can't get out, and presto! A cage w/normal sized holes. Hope this helps! =) |

| The Kid grids are hard to find, but here's a way to find them easier: Cavy Cages Forum - Grids with smaller openings http://cavycages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1672 When someone orders a cage that has baby piggies, I usually just throw in some extra coroplast to raise the edges all around 7-8 inches like cavylover suggested. That way it's temporary until they are big enough to not get their heads stuck in the regular-sized grids. |

 Ya i find theres no point in searching for the kid safe grids whne u can spend an extra 10 bucks and get another piece of coroplast to raise the sides.Also depending on what waterbottle you have it might not fit through the smaller grids.I had that problem so just raised the coroplast. |

| Definitely babyproof your cage! It didn't even occur to me when I got my baby pig and he got his head and one arm through the grid. When I turned around, his head was inside my 80lb dog's mouth! Luckily the dog was just licking him and didn't try to pull him out of the cage. I agree with the extra coroplast because of the added advantage of keeping bedding from being kicked out of the cage. |
