Question escape????solutions??

My husband worked all day Monday and built a C&C cage and our youngest GP went right though the holes in the cage we made it with cubes that are suggested, My husband made a temporary fix by increasing the size of the coroplast any other suggestions? He was frustrated but my co-workers thought it was hillarious.

Re: escape????solutions??

Depending on the age of the pig, they can squeeze right through. You can either raise the hight of the coro, or you can double up the grids, staggering them, so the baby can't fit through. There are directions on this site how to do that. Here is the link: http://www.cavycages.com/photos/show...t=532&password=

Re: escape????solutions??

For young pigs it is recommended to add either cardboard or coroplast to at least 10" or they will escape. You can also take another set of grids and stagger them so the holes are half as big. By about 2-3months old they shouldn't be able to fit through the grids anymore.

Re: escape????solutions??

You should add some carboard. It will stop him from escaping.

Re: escape????solutions??

This is what it says on the home page

"*Warning: Babies, very young or very small guinea pigs, and pregnant mothers require some temporary additional height on the sides of the cage (it's easy to do). In addition, any wire hay rack should be used with caution with very small guinea pigs. See the Cage Safety page for instructions and suggestions."

Re: escape????solutions??

On the subject of grid hole sizes:

I've just noticed that on the main page it says they shouldn't be bigger than 1.5", yet the cubes I recently bought have a hole size of just under 2" per square-has anyone else got similar and encountered problems?

It isn't fully built yet, but I've put Molly (the youngest and smallest) in there, and it doesn't look like she'll fit through, but appearances can be deceptive.
