I lost Marshmellow

Here we go again a week later. I have no clue why my hammies are dropping dead like flies. I found Marshmellow a little while ago dead in her cage. I can't keep going through this. My heart can't take it.

Re: I lost Marshmellow

Aw, I'm very sorry Ly. That sounds so hard on you because they keep passing on, I know how you feel because Peppy just passed away.
Maybe your hammies are sick or something? Can you take them to a vet?

Re: I lost Marshmellow

I only had two hammies and they are both in hammie heaven now, so it's not quite possible to take them to a vet. Neither were sick. I honestly don't know what they died from. They didn't even live together. If I sound a little snappy, it's because I am quite upset.

You didn't sound snappy to me, Ly. I just read your other thread, and I can't believe both of them died so suddenly. How old were they?

Re: I lost Marshmellow

Puffy was around 10-11 months old and Marshy was about 6-7 months old. I had Marshy out playing with her for a while last night, she was just fine. Today, I went to give her fresh food so she would have it when she woke up. She was curled into a ball next to her hidey house and I thought I would wake her up for a moment, but when I poked her, she didn't move. So I went to pick her up and noticed she was gone. I am just devastated.

Sorry about your hamster. I have an old girl 2 1/2 yrs old. We have had her since she was 4 weeks old. I don't want to think about her passing! I know it must be awful! I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry Ly. Is it possible that it was something they ate?

Re: I lost Marshmellow

Ly, I know it's hard on you. They are so tiny and cute and sweet.
No matter where you got them, they probably did come from a breeder to start with. Many of these dwarfs are severely inbred and it is very possible that yours just didn't have the average life span of 12-18 months. At least they did not act sick and linger in pain. Unfortunately, small rodents just have very short lives.
Hug your piggies!!!

I'm so sorry Ly.

I had hammies before, and Munchie, my best little friend (Russian Dwarf) was fine one day, and gone the next morning. No symptons, no slowing down, nothing. I'll love him forever. My thoughts are with you.

Re: I lost Marshmellow

Geez, Ly, this has been a bad year for your babies, and you too of course. I am so sorry about Marshmellow. Are you going to get anymore, or is it too hard to think about that right now?

Re: I lost Marshmellow

I would like to have a couple more winter whites, but the only thing is that I would have to buy them from the local petstore and I know that it's not a good choice to do that, so I am torn because I really want another winter white or two in time. There are no hammies in rescues/shelters around here or anywhere within a couple hours from me that I know of. It's very hard even finding piggies in rescues/shelters near me. I am just so upset because in a weeks time both my little sweet girls are gone. Jesse cleaned both cages last ni
