Question Would this work?

I'm going to start litter traing the guinea pigs tomorrow, but first I have a question. Since I have two guinea pigs (in seperate cages,) I was thinking something. Guinea pigs mark their teritorry (sp?) by going "potty," right? Well, I was wondering if instead of putting the guinea pigs' own poo in the litter box, if I could put the other pigs poo in it. If there is something wrong with my wierd idea, please tell me. I don't want anything to go terribly wrong.

Thanks,
Lindsey

Re: Would this work?

Pigs mark their territory by wiping their butts on the floor. There is an oil gland just above the butt (where a tail would be), which has a unique scent; this is why 'marking their territory' is sometimes called scent marking.

If you want to toilet train your pigs, your theory of putting fresh poops in the litter tray is the right one. It is very unlikely that they will stop pooping all over their cage, but they may stop peeing everywhere if they take to the idea.
Why would you put the other pigs poop in the litter tray? And do you mind if I ask why the pigs aren't together?

Re: Would this work?

Potty training is a huge success so far! Rodney has already pooped and peed in his litter pan. I just cleaned his cage about 20 minutes ago. I did find that he peed once in his wooden house, but he peed in his litter pan the other time. No stray poops that I can see. I didn't clean Chip's cage so far, but we'll see how he does on potty training.
