Re: My Baby is MIA!
How scary! I hope you find him! I'm lucky, the only times my dog ever got out he'd just run around my neighborhood, then sit in the front yard until I found him.

Re: My Baby is MIA!
Big Sigh! Is this one of those no news is good news?
I'm wondering who the heck this guy is with "your" dog collar??? Hopefully just a messed up street freak that find joy in stirring the pot.
It's a good thing that your vet, shelter and surrounding neighborhood is aware. Hopefully a good soul coxed him in and he is well.

Re: My Baby is MIA!
@BlueButterfly Silly dog! I just wish my dog would return, but I don't think he even knows how even as long as he's lived here.
@CinnandMegsMom I got the information about the guy second/third hand. I went to try to talk to the lady I spoke with this morning tonight. Her door was open, but no one answered. I'm going to try her again tomorrow and see if I can't somehow track that man down.
It was nice of him to go looking for the owner in the first place; please don't dog on his efforts. I never saw him personally, a woman sitting on her porch this morning had witnessed activity in the neighborhood and told me about it. She was only trying to help me. If I see a dog missing, the first thing I do is try to track down the owners. I can only hope others will do the same.
@MissJean Yes he is! Unfortunately, that's not a magic pill. It's not a tracker, but if someone finds him and wands him, they'll be connected with my vet and then me.
UPDATE: Besides tracking the woman down, I checked in with a few other neighbors and no one has seen him yet. I'm resting this evening and hoping for better luck tomorrow. Also checked in with the office at the trailer park- he said he'd heard nothing, seen no one. Will continue to work with them. Hope to get fliers printed out ASAP so I can pass them out and hang them up. Will keep looking.

Re: My Baby is MIA!
Try baiting him. A friend of mine had her new 8-month old collie run away from her house, and he turned up at a friend's house across town over a week later...they caught him by putting an entire cooked ham out in the backyard. Of course, this was the middle of winter when meat would stay fresh outdoors and wouldn't spoil after a couple hours, but it's something to consider. Have your friends and family try some sort of baiting.

Re: My Baby is MIA!
Thanks for your support today guys, but this story does not end well.
I made it back to talk to the lady again tonight. She told me who the man was talking to. I went over to speak to the other neighbor who, in fact, had more details then that woman did. He described the area where the dog had been found. So my husband and I went out looking for him.
My husband found him!
Turning this into The Rainbow Bridge portion tomorrow. Case closed.

I'm so sorry
I've been following this thread today. As a professional pet sitter, this is one of my worst nightmares, and I think/worry about it on a daily basis. This is such an awful thing to return to. You're in our thoughts.

Re: My Baby is MIA!
I've had some people making comments that I should continue looking for my dog. I don't know if I wasn't clear in my announcement before or what, but my dog is dead! I don't think he's dead, I know he's dead.
I was talking to a couple of witnesses on Monday and one was able to give me a location where we might be able to find him. My husband took me and we walked the highway looking for him. My husband found his body in that location and positively identified him. I wasn't able to look myself, but he being my husband, I trust his identification. After all, he's been around enough to be able to identify Sunny when he sees him. My husband both identified and buried my dog on Monday. There's no question that my dog has passed on.
The first witness I talked to, I spoke to Monday morning. She said he might be dead; I wasn't thinking clearly and continued the hunt before I spoke with the second witness. I was hoping the man with the collar would come back- he never did. I spent the rest of the day, until my hubby got back, looking for my dog and was prepared to continue.
But then I went back and spoke to the same woman again that evening to find out who had been speaking to the stranger. After going over to speak with her neighbor, he was able to pinpoint where the dog had been found. That's how we found Sunny Monday night.
I don't mean to be harsh but it's hard enough to deal with the loss of my dog when I have people telling me I should continue to look when we already know he's gone. I appreciate the condolences I have received, but please don't tell me to look for a dog we've already found under the worst possible circumstances! It's already enough of a nightmare. Thank you.
