Debit Cards!!!

Hey Everyone,

Today i have heard the best news, Canadian Banks are working on software so that we can use our debit cards ONLINE!!!! The Royal bank should be up and running by the end of May, Scotia and BMO should be ready in june or July. This is going to make everything much easier for us people who dont have credit cards. I've seen great deals and prices online but because i don't have a credit card all those deals pass me by. I hope the American Banks follow suit soon, if they haven't already.

Oh golly, pardon my ignorance. Is a debit card, when money is taken directly from your bank account?

Yes that is what a debit card is. My idea for this new internet comerace is:

1) set up an account just for this.
2)when i see a sale online, i call the "telebanking" line and transfer ONLY the ammount i need for the sale (taxes, shipping ect)
3)Use the account that i set up and give out that card number to the site for the sale. If someone hacks the account...they won't get any money.

I dont know the details of how its going to work but its coming.

I've been able to use my U.S. debit card everywhere credit cards are accepted (including online) for years. I'm talkin' maybe 10 or more years now. Maybe you just needed a new bank.

In Canada it's been a big news story that they are just starting to do this. We haven't been able to do it until now.
