My poor dog. Almost two years ago he tore the ligament in his right hindleg and had to go through surgery and around four months of recovery time. This afternoon we took him to the beach for a walk and now he's limping...bad. I'm afraid it's happened again with the other leg. That's another surgery and another four months. Not to mention the money. I've been crying all night. MY husband has already said he's going to sell his 66 mustang that he's had since he was 16 and was bought NEW by his grandma. That makes me feel even worse. And In June we already have plane tickets to visit my family and I've just been accepted to a month long field school in Nicaraugua. I'm going crazy here. I just don't know what to do. Sorry guys, just needed to get all of this off my chest.

Re: Oh no..not again. What luck. I'm sorry! Is there a vet you can work with on payment plans? My dogs have never had a surgery that has a long recovery period, but they have had surgeries and other problems, and sometimes you just can't come up with everything at once. Whatever you do, good luck!!

Re: Oh no..not again. Have you checked between his pads for a bit of broken shell, glass or a thorn? The beach is notorious for hiding little dangers in the sand. Look between his toes closely and watch for signs of tenderness as you feel in between with you fingers. Hopefully it's something small and not another torn ligament.

Re: Oh no..not again. I agree with Voodojoint to check the pads for broken glass. I live in your vicinity, sort of (El Cajon). Do you have a regular vet that you use? If so, may they could work with you on making payments. I think the vet I use lets people make payments. If your vet won't work a deal, maybe check around to others.

Re: Oh no..not again. Update: We took him to the vet this morning and they did x-rays. He did tear the ligament, but it's only partial. We're supposed to give him a few days and if it gets better we MAY be able to postpone the surgery. They are going to do ore x-rays to see if there's been more swelling over the weekend. I sort of want to go ahead with the surgery, because if we don't I'll always be worried about it happening everytime I take him to the park or on a camping trip. It is bad timing with trips coming up, but my husband agreed to stay back when I go visit my family to take care him. My vet (which we gone to forever, they're wonderful) does have financing, but I think we've agreed to sell some stuff and take care of the surgery and some other bills at once. Life never gets easy...

Re: Oh no..not again. I am beginning to think that our pets are more expensive than children. I swear I put more into the cats, birds, and piggies than my son :-) I certainly don't mind but definately fear something major happening to any of them like your dog.
