My dilemma

Well, I want to get a hamster, and I can get all of the accessories from my friend for free. *YAAAY* There is one small problem, my mom refuses to drive any where further away than 20 minutes for a hamster. There is some one who has a hamster for adoption half an hour away, but seeing as my mom doesn't want the hamster ( I DO) I don't think I can convince her to go. If I can't get to the adoptee hammie, how bad would it to be to get a hamster from a non-chain store? There aren't many hamsters in rescues except the one afore mentioned.

Ok I kinda answered it myself, but it seems the majority of hamster forums I have been on lately buy their hamsters from The evil Petco or Petsmart(yucky)
It would be the same store I got Atticus. Just remind so I can avoid the evil.

Re: My dilemma

Just tell your mom the friend's house is 20 minutes away, she won't notice.

Re: My dilemma

I looked on petfinder, the closest shelter with hammies is in Hatboro, about an hour drive. I still have to convince my mom about getting a hamster at all.

Re: My dilemma

Well, you could always look on mapquest for a landmark (i.e. gas station or something like that) that is on the way to get the piggie...but only 20 minutes away, then maybe ask the person adopting it out to drive 10 minutes to meet you there. Im sure they'd probably meet you. 10 minutes is NOTHING..

Re: My dilemma

By the time I can fully convince my mom (the way things are going right now) the hamster will probably already be gone. Thanks for the ideas for the next hamster that comes along though.

Re: My dilemma

Do you have an animal shelter near you? The shelter near me almost always has hamsters.

Not saying yours will but it may be worth a look.

Hi:

There is a pet expo in Fort Washington this weekend - not sure how far you are from there, but Looking for Love Pet Rescue will be there - maybe you can arrange for them to bring the hamsters there for you.

Re: My dilemma

I had a hamster once... I like guinea pigs much better :P
1. my hamster always bit me, it wasn't very friendly
2. I had its cage in my room and because it was nocternal(sp) it was always running in its wheel while I was trying to sleep
3. I think guinea pigs are so much cuter, they like to be social you can see when they are happy to see you.

Buy thats just my feeling
