Poor Bunnies

This story makes me sick.

Burning bunnies helps keep people warm and cozy | Oddly Enough | Reuters

What a waste of lives.

Re: Poor Bunnies

I know that this offends our sensibilities, but I lived in Europe when there was a rabbit overpopulation problem. The rabbits suffered horribly, they were starving and deceased. It's not great getting shot, but it is quicker and more merciful than the alternatives. They are also not breeding rabbits to use as fuel or mass slaughtering them. The point of the article about human cremation is valid. At least the rabbits' deaths are not in vain.

Re: Poor Bunnies

It's such a hard pill to swallow. The logical side of my brain tells me that because there is an overpopulation, something needs to be done. But then my heart steps in and I feel so bad and sorry for the poor animals. It makes me sick.

It sort if reminds me of something. I was watching a documentary on the History Channel a few months ago about the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. I was really excited and was paying super attention because the era between the two World Wars is my favorite and I study it feverishly. Well, a few years in, the farmers have gotten so frustrated because the rabbits had overpopulated and had ate nearly any and all vegetation and whatever little bit of crops that was left. There were too many. I wasn't prepared for what flashed before my eyes the next minute. The farmers got together and rounded up all the rabbits. Then, it's like they just let all their angry and pent up agony loose. People held the rabbits in while people beat them with hammers, grabbed them by the back legs and bashed their heads into the ground, tore them apart. It was awful. The rabbits were screaming as they watched the other rabbits tortured. I nearly died. I haven't cried so much at a TV show since I watched one on the Home Front during World War II. I know that decreasing the rabbit population was necessary for these people, but the manner in which they did it was beyond horrifying. UGH. I struggled with this for a long time.

Re: Poor Bunnies

I can only image how horrid that was. Even reading about it is going to haunt me. I guess being shot is not as bad as it may seem, it could be hellishly worse, no?
