So, I just went and saw the G-Force movie. I was extremely curious as to how much effort they would put in about actually educating their audience or if they would give any type of message. There was absolutely nothing that would suggest to the audience that the behavior/treatment of the guinea pigs in the movie was anything but normal. This drives me absolutely crazy because if this was a show about dogs I bet there would be a message. Is there any type of petition we can create or can we all try to write letters to disney? Could we get peta involved? I just want to know what can be done that can make a difference or even bring notice to this issue. |

I have seen the other threads... I'm sorry if this thread was redundant. I was just wondering if we could write to disney or do anything. And I truly believe there is common sense, but how many people would know about some of the things portrayed in the movie. It IS common sense that guinea pigs aren't secret agents, can't walk on two legs, etc etc. I don't know, I guess I was overreacting. |

jordan..I did go on the Disney website and gave them my uncensored opinion. Like you I wish everybody would...or there was a petition or something to sign. And I'm sorry to have to say this, but common sense seems kind of scarce nowadays. Last edited by Wheekie; 07-28-09 at 12:51 pm. Reason: want to add something |

I also went to go see it...and don't get me wrong it was cute, but the message that guinea pigs like to ride in toy remote cars and run around in balls are fun..is a complete screw up on their part. If you want to get attention of little kids and what not...i don't think putting these pet's lives in danger is really the concept. It pains me to know for a fact that every little boy and girl that wants a guinea pig is going to get one..because they saw how fun they can be on the big screen. I guess..maybe i just have a real heart and can't stand to see these sweet animals tossed around like a toy. I just hope that every one really gets some kind of common sense. (sorry...I had to rant aswell) |

I can tell you one thing, I'm not going to pay to see this movie. It frustrates me when I walk by a pet store and little five year olds are pulling at their parent's clothes and saying, "Mommy! Daddy! Look, I want one!" And then their parents give in and the guinea pig goes home to about 2 weeks of rough handling, till the kid decides that they don't feel like taking care of it anymore and it goes to a shelter where it will later be euthanized. And that'll happen even more now, with G-Force out. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I need to vent. =/ |

You guys make me feel a lot better. I know that I might sound crazy or like I'm over reacting but I saw how kids were reacting and it wasn't a good reaction. Maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal if I hadn't discovered this whole new way to raise guinea pigs. Growing up, I always saw guinea pigs in tiny cages that were pretty much fed once a day and received no attention. I have been told I am crazy because of the time and money that I put into my "babies", but I think that if you can't give them a good life you shouldn't own them in the first place. I am dissapointed that disney didn't even put in enough effort to add a short disclaimer at the end such as, "Owning a guinea pig is a serious commitment, adopt first, etc." It makes me angry that people will spend all their time defending dogs because they are "cute" but they won't do anything when a movie about "rodents" comes out. /rant. |

I am not going to see it either because I would be supporting the producers and directors and telling them that this type of movie sells and they are going to keep filming them. |

It’s that it gives people a kind of whimsical view of these animals, that causes them to think, ‘hey I gotta get me one of those’ like they would a new pair of shoes or a small kitchen appliance. It’s the same as Dalmatians after 101 Dalmatians, hedgehogs after Sonic the Hedgehog and rats after Ratatouille. The fault here is not that Disney made the movie or that they will continue to make movies like it in the future, it’s that Disney takes no real measures to explain that the animals in the movie are animations and not true to life when it comes to the real deal. And in not doing so, it sends a message on some level that it’s okay to treat these animals as merchandise, and that it’s okay to keep breeding and selling them. |

102 Dalmations has live puppies, and only the disclaimer that no animals were hurt. Ratatouille, Dumbo, Aristocats, Oliver & Company... Disney's not going to stop given such a long history of movie success. How many children wanted pet mice after Mickey hit the big time, though? While I can agree that Disney should add notes about animals in their movies, it does ultimately boil down to parental responsibility, and that is exactly what coporate suits from Disney would fault for any neglectful/abusive situations, or "difficulties" with any animals acquired on impulse after watching one of their movies. This is where I hope that the majority of people have a teensy bit of common sense. |

I don't plan on seeing the movie myself, as it would probably irritate me. Quote:
Pet stores and breeders seem to be capitalizing on this movie and on craigslist locally one breeder compares them to the guinea pigs in G-Force. I think pet stores and breeders are mostly to blame and shame on them for using a movie to help make money off of their "merchandise". |

Ultimately it does come down to the fact that many people are extremely fickle and a simple side note that they are animals that live and breathe and are not disposable may be what makes or breaks a decision to go and buy an animal after seeing the movie. |

I don't blame the movie for irresponsible views on animals any more than I blame car racing movies for causing people to speed (and I don't). If more people had a responsible idea of how pet acquisition and pet care should be handled, the movie would be pure entertainment and wouldn't cause such harm. It's the attitudes of irresponsible people that are the root of the problem, not the movie. |

On the other hand, though, there's a place where the irresponsible attitude starts, and for that reason I don't think a simple note before or after the movie would do any harm, either. |

I think a little note at the end of the movie would have been a great idea. Or maybe a 60 second interview segment from one of the voice-over actors talking about the 'realities' of guinea pigs as pets. |

Weeeell, here's my opinion. (note- this is my opinion, on quite a few other websites, I get jumped on for my opinion on G-Force, I hope that won't happen here I told my parents that the movie will probably lead to small-animal abuse across the nation. I mean, I know some kid out there is going to be like "Mommy, LOOK! It's like the one in the G-Force moovee!" Sure, the parents should supervise their kids while interacting witht he animals, but there's always the chance that mom or dad won't be standing there with little Tommy when he decides that Mr. Pig is going to act like the super Ninja or whatever. |
