My cat's strange behaviour

I have an 8 year old cat named KC. She has 2 odd behaviours that she exhibits that I cannot figure out why she does it.

First, she has these small stuffed toys that are dragons purchased from ikea years ago while she was a kitten, 4 of them. These drsgons are the only stuffed toys she will play with. But it is what she does with them. She constantly drops them in her water bowl. She isn't flinging them around and they fall in, I have witnessed her actually carry one over and drop it in. We have also found them in the toilet!

Second, she carries them around at night time and howls with them in her mouth. It can go on for 10 or 15 minutes, and only at bedtime when we have settled in for the night. When she is done she usually brings one into my bedroom and leaves it ont he floor or brings iton the bed with her.

The dragons are members of our family now and it is fun to find them in weird spots. We will at times do things such as line them up on the stairs before we leave the house and the see how far they get moved while we are gone.

The only thing i can think of is she is carrying them around at night like she has hunted them or something, but the dropping in the water bowl has me completely stumped. I fished one out of the bowl befreo i sat down to type this.

Re: My cat's strange behaviour

Oh my! My cat Kiki who is around 9, every night at 10:00 howls with his little catnip mouse and rat toy! He was just howling. I have gotten used to it by now so I hardly even notice anymore. That is so weird about the dropping them in water. Maybe he is trying to "throw" them away. I have no idea especially since you said he loves them

Re: My cat's strange behaviour

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a cat who does this! My 3 year old cat Victoria does this & it's only with certain soft ball toys. My 2yr old female cat Little One doesn't show this behavior though. Victoria has been doing this since I can remember. There are 3 water bowls around my house for the girls and every morning it's a surprise to see which toys made it into the pool as I like to call it.

Re: My cat's strange behaviour

2 of my seven (both girls) drop their soft balls in their water bowls and fountains. I seem to always have a kitty ball drying on the window sill.

Re: My cat's strange behaviour

Our cats sometimes drop their toy mice in their water bowls.

Re: My cat's strange behaviour

My cat won't drink from a water bowl!!
She will only ever drink rain water, so we have dozens of shallow bowls in the garden ready to pick up the water, and a huge trough so when its hot and dry she still has water.
Very annoying though!!
