Guido's Great Escape!! So yesterday was the 21st day for my little boar and I had to seperate him from the others...So I have his wing ready and I go ahead and add it to the larger cage and "babyproof" it. Or so I thought..he is the link to his add-on and what it looked like prior to adding anything into it: http://www.cavycages.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1853&password=&sort=1&cat=507& page=1 http://www.cavycages.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1854&password=&sort=1&size=med ium&cat=507&page=1 Now as you can see I thought I had it pretty well thought out as to how to make sure he didnt get to the girls but could still see them but couldn't touch them. Well I added the newspaper, hay, water bottle, food dish, and a house (The cage is 3/4 filled with hay so he lives in the hay mainly). So I placed him in there and he ran into the hay and stayed in there and chewed on hay and all looked good. I checked him about an hour later and he was doing well so, silly me, I went to bed. Once I was asleep and guido's (the baby boys name) intelligence network informed him that the coast was clear his plan was put into action. With the girls doing lookout for the C&C guards (meaning me) guido quickly assembled his thoughts, gathered his courage and mysteriously escaped and rejoined the girls where they hid him out as best they could. (My girls have not only the cage but 24/7 access to the entire Free Range bedroom here is the pictures of that) http://www.cavycages.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1852&password=&sort=1&cat=515& page=1 http://www.cavycages.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1851&password=&sort=1&size=med ium&cat=515&page=1 Morning comes and I awaken to take my youngest to school and to feed the piggies (ravenous herd is a better term in the mornings) their breakfast buffet of lettuce, cilantro, green beans, fruit of the day-apple, carrot, and today a few oats. As I say my morning greetings they all run out with the mysterious exception of the mother and both babies.....hmmm I think well maybe they are sleeping so I put the food down and put some in guido's section and that is when I notice the C&C breakout has occurred. Instantly I sound the alarm and another C&C guard comes to my aid (my daughter) to search for the missing miscreant. We hunt through the pigloo's and find him sheltered by his mom and sister in the towel tent. Guido, sensing his imminent capture, makes a break for the doorway leading to the freerange room but at the last instant is caught by the newly arrived C&C guard. Well, after a stern admonishment that he has been a naughty piggy, he is returned to his cage and I adjust the babyproofed grid thinking he somehow got under it. Little do I suspect that he is secretly laughing at my feeble attempts to cage him. After redoing the wire I watch for a few minutes and all seems well but I have to leave to get the kids to school. So I leave confident that the little miscreant is secure and has learned the error of his ways and now realizes that my intellect is superior to his...hmmph... 15 minutes later....I enter the house and go into check on how he is doing with the seperation since he now can not escape. Only to discover that he has shown me truly who has the superior intellect...he has again escaped and is in the girls cage looking at me and silently giving me the rasberries...With no back up guards to help, the pursuit of the escaped miscreant begins and is a chancey thing as he bolts for the hidey hole of a pigloo. After a great struggle on his part he is caught once again. It seems to me that he has a smug grin on his face as I tell him he is being such a naughty little boy and how that he is now 22 days old we cant be having any more babies. I return him to his cage, get a book and sit on the floor and patiently wait to see how houdini is escaping. The girls come out and play around me, the dominant one climbs on me and tries to distract me by nibbling my toe and running and popcorning hoping I will play with her...but my concentration never waivers and finally...guido emerges..eats some hay and leisurely puts his front paws on top of the house and then does an olympic medal jump to the top of the house which is even with the top row of the cubes grid..he then begins to go through it at which point he is apprehended and his house removed and his guard has once again learned humility at the hands of his ever so clever piggies. I hope he did not get any of the girls pregnant

Re: Guido's Great Escape!! Wow, what a naughty boy! 22 days old is 3 weeks, so we'll all hope he didn't get anyone pregnant! That's a halarious story though, if I can't say so myself. It's crazy, My one boy was in his cage and he jumped from his c&c cage to another one, from the top of his hidey house into a home of 3 boars.... Needless to say I saw the whole thing, and got him out before a fight could occur. I'm so glad he didn't get in with the girls, but yours did! Wow, Guido is an escape artist! >__o Great story, gave me a laugh, but let's just hope your girls didn't get pregnant!

Re: Guido's Great Escape!! As a quick follow up...he escaped again!! He is such a naughty little boy. I had to raise the walls on the side of this cage as he would stand on the hay, put his paws on the highest grid and pull/jump into it and after a few tried eventually get into it and fall through to the floor....he is one determined piggy. Good news is that its been about 12 hours and he hasn't managed to escape again so I think maybe I finally got it fixed.

Re: Guido's Great Escape!! Guido is the only boy and the other 5 are girls and much as I enjoy the piggies I dont think adding another boar would be good for them or us at this point because it would require seperation and their cage and freerange bedroom is designed to allow them 24/7 access to free range and as a group. Guido gets his first physical in 2 weeks and then when he is old enough and large enough he will be neutered and rejoin the herd. For now he has to just see them through the grids.

Re: Guido's Great Escape!! My midnight did that too. The very first night I put hime with the other boys where he should be. the next day we was with his mommy looking at me saying I won. I put him back samething back with his mommy. For 2 days I rant my brains out trying to figure out how he was doing this.He would jump as high as he can and stick his head through the grid hole and wiggle his way through. So I had to double grid the crates so he cant do it. Well the next day he got out again. but this time he jumped so high and actually went over the cube divider. I had to put a roof on the divider section until he learns that he was a bad boy and he cant go over. 2 months went by very good and took the 2nd grid off and the roof off and he is a good boy now.
