Re: my guinea pig

When we got Emmet, as first I thought her he was giving me tiny little nibbles. It turns out he was actually licking me. He loves to lick fingers with his rough little tongue. My daughter and I have both had colds lately and since this, he has also taken up licking noses (outside...not inside).

Re: my guinea pig

My lead sow licks me too, but the nibbling feels very different, its a definate grip rather than the quick hold that they do when they are washing you. ive found that a gentle pinch of her ear (pads of the fingers, just enough to hold the ear) seems to make her stop, I noticed chubbles (the gaffer) would bat her ear whenever she stepped out of line so I tried it and it seems to work pretty well.

Re: my guinea pig

She dosent seem scared at all, she just ducks her hear for a few seconds then gives me her next demand , usualy a leaf is enough to shut her up (she's very vocal, about practicaly everything)

Re: my guinea pig

sometimes they are just quiet, sometimes they are sleeping, sometimes they are scared stiff, you can tell the diffrence though. My older pig is a quiet pig because he was abused before I got him, I have had im for a year almost and hes just starting to make noises.

Re: my guinea pig

i think the store i bought her from didn't take care of her well cause she is afraid of everything and when i put her on the floor just to let her walk around she just sits there and does nothing cause we bought our male from pj's pets and they handled him almost everyday and the male is fine he runs around talks to us and everything but the famale game from a store called mr.pet and they told me when i bought her that she was there for breeding and thats it so could that have something to do with it?

Re: my guinea pig

The vocal side is just down to personality, Lulu (the youngest) loves the sound of her own voice and will hardly shut up unless she's asleep, and when she drinks.
Wooky on the other hand only ever wheeks for food and purrs when you stroke her.
Chubbles (the gaffer) likes to talk to household objescts just before she tries to flip them over, she also likes to talk to me when she washes my hands.
Im still learning like you, so if any advice is given from other members, I would listen to them over me, but I like to share what I do know, hopefuly it will help.

Re: my guinea pig

YOu pig is skitterish its to be expected from any petstore pig. You need to be patient and think about what she's been throuhg. JUst calm down when yuo are near them and let her out as often as possible.
My younger pigwon't llet me pet him but he's willing to cuddle , I just take him out and let him sit next to me on a towel while I read or watch tv, if he's feeling cuddly he'll let me know.
