Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Oh. my. gosh. So ok, I went to Pet Supermarket today, Christmas-Eve. This man was getting a ferret. I saw the shopping cart that had been set aside with the cage he was planning on using. He walked out with it, so he was going to put the ferret he just got in there. The cage was one of those square shaped ones on a stand close to the floor, and had a shelf and ramp in there. It was way too small for even a piggie, as all pet store cages are, and this man was going to use it as a ferret cage. Then there comes the really weird, strange, spaced out, dumb Pet Supermarket employee. He was weird, like he was sick or something, I don't know. The man holding his new ferret that he picked out was waiting for them to get a "box" to put the ferret in, and a "health gurantee". So, the employee, a middle-aged man, gets an empty box that was clearly used to ship live crickets in (the labeling and graphics printed on the box made it obvious, plus there were many others stacked underneath). This box was so small, you probably could only fit one shoe in it, it was smaller than any shoebox I've ever seen. So, he puts the ferret in there (meantime, the new owner/customer just stands buy watching, and his wife also just stands there. They also make some sort of joke as they smile and watch their ferret get "packed up".), closes the box and tapes it shut with packing tape. Now, I didn't look close enough to see if there were any air holes for sure, but from where I was, which wasn't that far away at all, I couldn't make out any air holes. I was completely dumbfounded. It was like a dream of some sort. I guess there's no explanation for some people! Anyways: Does anyone else have a Pet Supermarket near them? What do you think of them compared to petsmart/petco/other dumb pet shops that sell animals? Mine is a scaled-down version of the regular-sized Pet Supermarkets. They sell (as of now) budgies, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, cockatiels, some other type of parrot, betta fish, tons of other fish, hermit crabs, and some other kind of very small bird. The piggies nor the bunnies have any hay, any time I go in there, no hay!! And in the small pet section they have a little sign about rabbits that explains the importance of hay, yet they never give any hay to either their bunnies or their cavies. Oh well. I guess I could talk to peta and the aspca and the humane society, but they can't do anything as long as all the animals have food, shelter, and water, right? They're all just so busy, I don't know whether they'd bother. |

Now it happened to me in one of those stores, don't remember if it was Petsmart or Petco though, to actually kinda offend one of the employees. I was there to get some things for the piggies before I got them, so it was an emergency supply till I could order from the internet, and I went in the store with my husband. My husband handled the list (yeah I had a premade list) and asked one of the employees to serve me with everything (from aspen shavings, to water bottle, toys and so on). Now for some things there was written down exaclty what I needed, but for other things not. So that employee gives lets say "good advices" to my husband as I was looking around for some things. He comes back to me and says look hunny he recommended this toy, and this and that. I see the bull****, oh excuse me, the "wonderful things" that he held in his hands, and the employee standing next to my husband, and I said, without even noticing the guy was there and I didn't care anyways, "No hunny, he works at Petstupid, he doesn't know s*** about anything regarding piggies, he is dumb." (Sorry for the language, but that is what I said). The employee didn't say anything, he was just surprised maybe. Another thing that happened was at Petco this time, for my second water bottle I think. I just questioned the employee a lot and told him to shut up and keep his "good advices" for himself because I prooved he doesn't know anything what he was talking about. And yes, I still go to these stores just to look, when I get the chance, see how poor animals are held, all sad, and just waiting to be questioned by someone and start an arguement. |

I walked into PetSmart about a year ago before rescuing my pig. I knew it was bad but I had to get him the next day or else someone else would take him. I bought my stuff and went to my car. Then I remembered I forgot the water bowl(to put under the water bottle). I walked in there and the employee noticed me in the guinea pig aisle. He suggested some completely HORRIBLE items. I get furious and say "Do you think I'm stupid? I know how to take care of guinea pigs(at this point I'm screaming :O) I know where you get your animal animals. I know you kill animals! I'm not going to buy and of this s**t you sell here! Why do you guys torture these poor animals?!?! I bet you don't know a d**n fact about how to take proper care of any animal! I got mad and left. |

No one has a Pet Supermarket? I'll keep watching this thread...... Wow you guys! I didn't say anything! I don't have the gusto to say/do what you guys did! I would be afraid of getting embarrassed or having everyone looking at me.....I knew I should've said something, I just couldn't.....I will copy & paste my original post and email it to the ASPCA and PETA, and the HSUS. Maybe they can contact the store. Congrats you all for having such amazing self-esteem L0L. I'm a tad shy, so... |

Yeah who cares what they think. Most of them are teenagers who "love" animals. P.S. Sorry I forgot I do have a Pet Supermarket by me. |
