Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I have had this question for AGES! What is the difference between a regular veterinarian and a vet tech? |

The veterinarian is the doctor, the vet tech is the nurse. |

Vet techs can give shots and do other procedures like dental work and skin scrapes, and things of that nature. The Vet has the say so and checks out the animals and does surgeries and the like. I was a Vet Tech once. |

To add to what misspiggy&piper said: The vet tech also assists in surgeries and such as well. I'm going to be trying to go college to become a vet tech when I am in my last year of school. |

No one has mentioned this yet, so I'll go ahead and say that veterinarians make more money than vet techs (obviously). |

Haha. Yeah they obviously make more money. I think that the average pay for a vet is 60k a year, and for vet techs it's about 20-30k a year. |

Vets also have to go to 8 years of school, while vet techs might only take a couple. |
