I'm so happy, yet sad

Saturday I found out that we are going to finally get our dog cremated. A year ago he was put down and we buried him (long story so I won't go into it) but we moved on the 28th of September (this year) and my brother was having an extremely difficult time because Buddy was like his dog, my parents talked to him and found out the reason. So they called the realtor who was the guy who bought our old houses realtor, to ask her if she could call him and ask if we could dig him up, she called and he was fine with it. I cried a lot, and I am deffinitely not going when they dig him up because it would be so hard to see what is left, even though I already pretty much know what is left. And my brother was asking when we would consider another dog, my parents are thinking about it. I have a sinking feeling that they might try a breeder since it has been established that they want a puggle, but I found a good rescue that has lots of puggles, so I will try as hard as I can if they mention a breeder, and if they don't I will let them know that I don't want a dog if it is from a breeder, and I will have nothing to do with it if they get one from a breeder, though if we do get one it won't be for a while yet.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog but I to am happy he'll be traveling with you!

I think "puggles" are adorable. However they are just another mutt with a fancy title. Its just a ploy from dumb breeders who want to make money. They are called "designer dogs" but they aren't. Yes, there are many perfectly well puggles in shelters. I was just looking at a few.

Are you aware puggles are extremly loud and hard to train? My friend helps out at a shelter and she's seen 1 to many uncontroled puggles bought from petstore or breeders being dropped off there. Usualy they find a home since they are oh so popular but I have talked to a few people who either own one or have neughbors who own them. They usualy say something like this:

" I love (insert name here) but sometimes she pulls on my last nerve. It took us forever to train her and she still is somewhat wild. Always barking."

Sorry to damoer your parade, but I thought I should share that.

I'm glad your brother is getting what he wants, but it would really bug me if someone disrupted my dog's grave.
It kinda brings a new meaning to rest in peace.
However, if it was mostly his dog, I understand the attachment.
I was curious though, did your parents find a place that will cremate the dog after a year of being buried?
I'd be very compassionate about your brother's feelings, but if it were me, I'd be a little weirded out.
Maybe they can involve him in picking out the next dog.

I have no doubts that puggles can be a handful, not that I've ever met any 'official' ones- but I have known lots of pugs (willful, lots of medical conditions due to the short nose, atrocious to trim nails on- so I'm not a big pug fan... I think I met a nice one, once...) and lots of beagles (loud hound baying, lots of energy, usually pretty sweet though). Even if you got the most positive traits of both I would be surprised if the dog didn't inherit the baying. It's parrot-loud and a trait that has been bred for for hundreds of years. I do have a soft spot for hounds, though.

Also- I worked at a kill shelter for several years, and there were definitely dogs, even puppies, that fit the bill that 'disappeared'. Maybe they got adopted, maybe not. Usually I didn't ask, at least not until later when a dog I nearly adopted got put down. Then I felt like a coward for not knowing.

Anyway... I hope you do adopt (from a shelter or non-breeding private individual). Having a dog is something I miss terribly.

My parents, I think, have called and the place is fine with doing it, I believe. I am not weirded out about it though. See, the guy who bought the house is getting a dog, and if we left the gate open when we lived there, dogs would dig it up, and we had dogs on more than one occasion dig it up. I talked to my mom and we are going to adopt (when we decide to get one).

Yes I know they are a mutt. This one puggle I found is already trained, dewormed, vaccinated, rabies, heartworm test completed and preventative started, and is microchiped, as well as spayed, and she is 1 and 1/2 years old. We have watched a professinal behavior trainer train our dog, as well as she has told us what to do, so we know how to train, and are very consistent in doing it, the only thing we would have to do is crate train the dog, if we got this certain dog I found (it is a pug specific rescue).

Anyway I am looking at different breeds they may be better for us. Thanks for the quiz things Alusdra.

Hey- if you want a puggle and you found one in a rescue I say go for it. I'm just a teensy, tiny bit prejudiced against them. Heh. Ok, a lot prejudiced. I'm not the biggest fan of no-nosed (brachiocephalic) breeds or small dogs. Or tan dogs... or ones with no tails, or short hair... (So... pugs basically.) But that is absolutely a personal preference.

Researching a bunch of different breeds is never a bad idea. I think it's sort of fun, actually. Any dog you get there will be different challenges, but at the end of the day if you're dedicated to the dog and appropriate training, that's all that matters.
