Squirrels?

I live on the third floor of my apartment building and the other day found a squirrel trying to climb up my window. I put out a few unsalted peanuts and opened the screen so that he/she/they/ could sit on the window sill and eat.

I know that they can eat most nuts but I was wondering if anyone knew of any other squirrel healthy treats I could leave out for them.

I found a squirrel forum, but it's not nearly as well put together as this one, and was very hard to navigate, so I figured I'd check here.

Re: Squirrels?

Um, I don't know much about what they can eat but is it a good idea to ffeed squirrls? You don't want to make them reliant on people or have them think they're to trust. I once saw a man hand feeding a squirrel. It was sickening. I really don't think you should feed him.

I'd imagine they'd be like racoons. I saw a program on miame animal police. A woman decided to feed the local racoon. Next thing you know she has upwards of fifty. THey start going into her house, and stealing her food. I really don't thikn you should feed them once again.

Re: Squirrels?

Squirrels are a hoot to watch. Mine like to come to the base of my bird feeder and eat the seeds. Their favorite is the suet feeder I keep out for the birds. They really love dried corn cobs. You can check at your local grocery store on the pet food isle. Over where they sell birdseed they sometimes carry little ears of dried corn. They love that and sunflower seeds.

Re: Squirrels?

I love squirrels! A while ago in the park I saw something very strange. I saw a squirrel, and it looked like it was carrying another one in it's mouth almost! It looked like it had another squirrel wrapped around it's neck. I have no idea what it was doing. The squirrel just ran up a tree like that. I assume it was carrying a baby.

Re: Squirrels?

If you get a bird feeder (if you buy the kind that hangs from a hook it will be easy to watch) and fill it with birdseed, you'll be able to watch the birds and the squirrels. I have one, and although I really don't like the squirrels scaring away all the birds (they always come back though), squirrels are hilarious to watch.

Re: Squirrels?

You can buy seeds and corn cobs from feedstores at a low price. I love squirrels. We were leaving a church one day and a squirrel started climbing up my cousins leg and it wouldn't leave. It was more interested in climbing then food. It was cute and I took pictures .
