Question Questioning everything I researched about dog food.

I have done a lot of research on dog food and I seem to change my dog food when I find new information. When I first learnt about by-products I put my dog on Royal Canin. Than I learnt that staying away from fillers, such as corn is a good thing so I currently have him on Wellness Core (he loves it! He gets sooo excited for breakfast/dinner again!).

So here's where I'm questioning everything ... my friend has a dog (the same friend who put me down for building a 5x2 cage for my cavies) about the same age as my dog and she has him on Kibbles and Bits. Her dog is softer than mine. My dog goes to the vet more often than her dog for illness. Just it seems like she's putting cheap, disgusting food in her dog and getting the results I'm expecting for putting a good food into my dog.

What the?!

You have to remember that your dog isn't her dog. Just like humans. You could have a 5 year old kid, and your friend have a 5 year old. And one could get sick more often the other and have more health problems. It's not just the food that makes or breaks you.

Yes, she's right, listen to her. The food you're feeding may help, but your dog could still have health problems, that might be worse w/o the good dog food. It could be just your dog. I would reccomend getting a skin & coat supplement from www.drsfostersmith.com , they list them from "for dogs w/ mild dry coat/skin to for dogs w/ severe dry coat/skin".

Wellness Core is indeed an excellent dog food, so I understand how confused you are, because I'm pondering how your situation could be now, L0L! I'm sending you a private message in a minute w/ some info that may prove useful for you and your dog. Hope I can help, and good luck!

Re: Questioning everything I researched about dog food.

You could also ask your vet about his/her opinion on what could be up with your situation. And see if they think that it could just be your dogs nutrition.

I doubt it though. Since you are feeding such a high quality of food.

And I just thought about this sorry, but you also have to think about breed. Each breed category has a VERY different coat. In texture length and etc..

Re: Questioning everything I researched about dog food.

I guess my reply to this didn't go through.

Anyways, care isn't everything when it comes to an animals health. Yes, good care certainly contributes and is MUCH better and healthier for the animal, but you're doing what's right for the health of your dog by feeding her high quality food. The Kibbles and Bits is crap.

Keep in mind some people keep their pigs in a small aquarium on cedar shavings fed seed mix for all their life, and some of these pigs have no major illnesses and live several years. Sometimes people who take amazing care of their pig lose their pig at a young age, but it again depends on the animal. The good care can help them be healthier and happier, but isn't everything.

True. She has a yorkie and I have a chug (chihuahua/pug mix). My mom's pug's hair is sooooo soft though! Poor baby Romeo. Guess he just has bad hair genes like his momma.
