| I've been going to horse camp for a couple days now. One of my sort-of-friends has a guinea pig. She invited me over to see him because I told her I had two (soon to be four) as well. Well, I didn't expect what I saw. She kept "him" in a 10 gallon tank perched on her dresser. When I asked her why it wasn't really situated there, she said iit was because the cage always had to get moved. Then I peered into the cage and saw cat litter. I asked her why she used cat litter and she said that it worked better than CareFresh. I told her that cat litter was not something you should use for a guinea pig. The food bowl was empty, as was the water bottle. When I asked about hay she said she didn't give it to him. He had no hideys and was tucked in a corner of his cage (tank). When I asked to hold him she put him in a hamster ball. About everything a person could be doing wrong she managed to do. I checked its basic health and found horribly curled toenails and that "he" was a she. I asked her to begin to take better care and she said she wouldn't. I told her flat-out if she didn't care I was going to take the pig right then and there. (Her mother could care less as well, by the way). I felt horrible. I brought her home (this was two weeks ago) and was kept in quarentine (sp). Then I introduced her to my two female pigs, and slowly but surely she's beginning to get some personality. I used some extra grids and added two grids so the 2x4 became a 2x6. Intros went well and she was amazed by the room and comfort of her new cage. Now, she runs laps and popcorns and is loving her new life. My two other females love to play with her, and I think they enjoy having a young pig around. I renamed her ("His" name was Mr. Monkey.) Don't ask me why. But she's now named Willow, Willy or Will for short. Allright. All of that is a wonderful happy story. But I just can't believe how some people could be so oblivious for an animals needs (she's the same way with the horses, forgetting to clean stalls and such). But can someone really just not get it to that extent?? And if she did know how she was really treated the poor pig, why didn't she attempt to change? *sighs*. I don't know. Actually, this is getting rather long..ok I'm gone. |

| Re: Unbelievable Good job on taking her home right then and there she is in a much better and happier place. When I first got Harry he was in a 10 gallon fish tank also. but for only one night then I started on a bigger cage and finally within a week got a C&C cage for him. |

| Wow! Good thing you came along. You were in the right place at the right time. A piggy angel guided you there. Good luck with your new little girl! |

Kudos to you on saving the piggie. People like her should never have pets. |

| Re: Unbelievable Kudos to you for saving the piggie! I'm not going to say what I think of her or what I'd like to do with her if I could meet her. How can she neglect such gorgeous creatures (guinea pigs and horses - two fo my fav's)?! Pleeeease tell me she doesn't actually own a horse (If she does she could get a real dose of reality very quickly with her carelessness and their highly sensitive digestive system). People like her get it, they just don't care. Been there, delt with it and the girl still could care less (seriously abused and neglected horses and the SPCA here STILL won't get off their rears to do something -cries-). Keeps tabs on this one, and pray she doesn't get another. If she does, I say with those conditions a call to the SPCA would be in order. |

| Re: Unbelievable Nope, Angelgal, she doesn't own a horse (by the way piggies and horses=my top two fave animals as well). And for the sake of her horse at camp I've taken him over. Lol the horses name is Larry Lovebuckets. He is adorable. No, I'm pretty sure she won't, because 1. I completely lost it and yelled at her about the poor thing (who, by the way, was given a vet appointment by a only-sort-of-cavy-savvy vet and has URI. She's being treated right now). 2. When I left she threw out the cage/tank. So I think we are good. |

| Re: Unbelievable Good job on saving that piggie! I am a horse LOVER, I own a bunch of horses (I own one my mom owns 11, we have a camp program) and know a lot about them. They are not easy animals to take care of. I am very glad you saved that piggies life! I know people who have guinea pigs and I say "your lucky! I wish I could get some" (I don't have piggies yet.) They say "Don't get them, they bite." And as we know guinea pigs don't bite unless their threatened. So that makes me wonder, what are they doing to the piggies to make them bite? | Re: Unbelievable Kudos to you for taking the pig. What does she look like? I agree, your friend should not be allowed animals. If you aren't going to take good care of them, don't have them! |

| Re: Unbelievable Yeah she's adorable. I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but I would post pics but my little ** brother stole my camera and buried it. In our backyard. So I have a feeling I'll need to get a new one. That might take a while...anyway yeah, and after the patch a squiggly black like runs across her forehead and around her cheek. ![]() |

| Re: Unbelievable Its so cool you had the courage to stand up to her and save the poor little piggy. I have one female I have been looking for a companion for and finally our animal shelter got a female piggy up for adoption. Her previous owner had PAINTED her. The shelter got the paint cleaned/cut off but her fur is falling out in a couple patches so she is being held until the vet okies her. She is a pretty mostly white Aby with a few tan spots. (and a few bald spots, oh well) I would love to get ahold of the person who painted her and ask what the !!!! they were thinking. Hopefully I will have her by the end of the week. |
