| Who's right, Who's wrong? snopes.com: Marauding Minks I was wondering what your thoughts on that was. Who's right and who's wrong? Is it okay to turn them into useless fur coats? Or is it okay to set them free and let the whole population suffer? I think they're all wrong. This is old but I wanted to see your views on it. |

| Re: Who's right, Who's wrong? Oh dear lord! I could so see a little kid going "Look mommy! A ferret!" and grabbing at the thing and getting attacked. I looked at the picture (so obviously having no clue what minks looked like) and immediately thought that it looked alot like a ferret. This is what kills me about animals. Was it unfair that they be abused? Yes. But is it fair in turn that every other species is endangered now by this animal's release including humans apparently? If I saw a mink in my home and it went to attack a dog or god forbid, my guinea pig or hamster I would beat the crap out of it too. It puts me in mind of evasive and non-evasive species debates going on. Now this one truly scares me. snopes.com: St. Bernard Petition And I guess I shouldn't be laughing but this one cracks me up. snopes.com: Genpets Gave me great ideas for a scifi book! | Re: Who's right, Who's wrong? Disturbing. Unfortunately, too many animal activists take things too far without thinking about the consequences and they are the ones that give the group as a whole, a bad name. Of course the most extreme acts are used to define those who care about animals and their rights. We don't hear about the good things much, only the crazy, and in my opinion, foolish. Letting them loose was wrong. Raising them for coats is wrong. What is the best course of action in that situation? I don't know but what they did was certainly not it. The raising St. Bernards for food was also disturbing but they also had a point about cruelty in raising any animals for food. I'm sure many find that the way animals are "farmed" here is barbaric. I agree with this also. Many countries eat guinea pigs on a regular basis. There was a case here in NC not too long ago of someone releasing a king Cobra that they claimed was released by animal activists protesting people keeping them as pets. Where is the sense in that? |

| Re: Who's right, Who's wrong? I think both of them are wrong. No, it's not right to cage animals and slaughter them for their fur, but it's also not right to "liberate" them in a way that causes them to die like that, or kill other innocent animals. There has to be a balance. |

| Re: Who's right, Who's wrong? I looked at the link about the Saint Bernardes. THere was a quote in there I thought summed up many of our feelings about this. It went something like this: Quote:
I think the correct form of action in the case of the minks was show the public what they were doing to these minks. Have them stop suppporting it and maybe that would have helped the situation. Wayyyyy to many animals suffered. I two agree that sometimes animal activists take it to far. I don't think this did anything to help the overall situation of all minks. Maybe the 2,000 or so that survived benifited from it. But the company will only get more with better secured area. It did nothing to helpt the situation of the other minks.
