Anyone read any good books recently?

I've finally lifted my head from the mire of examinations and am awaiting results with bated breath.

However, now I have the time to actually READ for pleasure! I'm currently reading Captain Corelli's Mandolin and then I'll be reading Dracula. Any recommendations for further books?

The 48 Laws of Power - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I like Audio Book version better. The voice is really soft and comfortable. I played 3 times already.

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

Let's see .... I like to read. In the past week, I've read:

Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner (I thought it stunk)
Mistaken Identity (about those girls in the car accident in 2006, who got mixed up; one died and the other was in a coma. It was a little too religious for my taste. and totally freaked me out, makes me want to tatoo my name all over my body.)
Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian (ok, but not as good as others but the same author)
Bright and Shiny Morning By James Frey (Really pretty good)
The Weight of Water by Anita Shreve (didn't like it; her other books are better, plus they all tend to run together if you read enough of them)
No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy (movie is better)
The Whole Truth by David Baldacci (interesting story, but kind of preachy)
Sick Girl by Amy Silverstein (true story, very interesting, but the author's kind of whiny)
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides (very weird. Not sure if I liked it or not.)

And of course, I'm re-reading the Harry Potter books. I like to re-read those every so often because they are always a good read.

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

I loved the Harry Potter books. I've also re-read them!

I recently read "The Quickie". I think it's by James Patterson. It was a good read. I'm now reading "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer. She also wrote a teen vampire series which I really liked. Another book in the same series is coming out in August.

I love to read, but I sometimes go through the books to quickly and let the world (and the house) go to pot. I never go to the library because I like to own the books I read. I know....I'm crazy.

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

Wait is another book in the Stephanie Meyer Twighlight series coming out? I absoulutly adore those books! I recomend those to anyone who needs a book. Um, a good book i read awhile back was the Lightening Theif series. It was by Rick Rioden. It was about a boy who finds out he's a halfblood (mortle parent, and a mythicle parent AKA Zues or one of those) He goes on a bunch of adventures where he has to save the earth. It was very good. I read the rest of the series to. When i was younger I read a series by James Patterson, called Maximum Ride. It was pretty good and I'm usualy not into the whole Fantasy thing haha. I can't remeber a really good book I read nor can I remember the author of them. I'll post when I remember

It's good practice although pricey. When you return books to library, you are returning big potion of what you have gained from the books as well.

I love Stephenie Meyers and I just prepaid to get the new book coming out in August. How is the host so far? I've been kind of iffy on buying it so I've put it off. Did you know they're coming out with a movie for her first book in the series Twilight? It's due out in December!

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

I'm having a bit of trouble getting into "The Host". It's very different from her other books that I've read. It is also a really long book.

I didn't know a movie was being made. Will it be a movie theater movie or a TV movie?

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

Twilight is the best book series ever! My favorite book is Eclispe, third book of the Twilight series. The series goes in this order, Twilight, New Moon, Eclispe, and Breaking Dawn (coming out in August). Another book by Stephine Meyer is The Host. I haven't read it yet, but my friends really recommend it. Yes, Twilight is coming out on December 12th at 12:01 in the morning in theaters. And if you read Twilight, the first chapter of Midnight Sun (a different version of Twilight from Edward's point of view) can be found on the internet.

I love the Harry Potter books. The Charlie Bone series is great too! The best book I read this month would have to be Peak. It is about a fourteen year old boy summiting Everest. For anyone who likes adventurous books, I highly recommend Peak!

I could have liked Harry too, only if he turned out to be a soul brother of Tom with even greater evil power.

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

I think Terry Pratchett books are a good read. They're so different!!! A million times better than Harry Potter. Those books aren't the best I've read.
I read a lot.
Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy is brilliant too.

Re: Anyone read any good books recently?

I only got through one harry potter book and I just can't be bothered to read anymore. Yes the twilight series is sooo good. I will definitely be buying my ticket for that very first showing extra early. I feel stupid sometimes walking through the book sections that I usually end up walking through because I'm a 21 year old walking through the kids and teen sections...but oh well...I find that's where I find some of my most favorite books. When I lived in MA, I'd visit the library once a week, spend like 2 hours in the teen section, and come home with like 10 books. I books.
