Considering Oprah bought her dogs from a puppymill I can only imagine how hypocritical it will be Tilting at Puppymills: Screw you, Oprah

Re: Oprah April 4th.

Thansk for telling me! I will watch! *Marks her calendar!*
This should be interesting!
Voodoo- I did not know that her dogs were from puppy mills! You learn somehting new each day! Now I will definetly watch! She should feel terrible that she got her dogs from a mill! She will probably talk about how terrible it is but she supports it in her own home!

Oh my goodness. What a hypocrite. *shakes head*

Buying dogs from a puppy mill and then doing a show about the horrors of them.... Oxymoron much?

Maybe she didn't but I doubt it. She's an educated woman who stays abreast of current issues. I also simply don't see how she missed the conditions of the breeder. She went there personally, it's not like she bought the dogs out of some posh petstore like Paris Hilton does.

If she didn't know then then she knows now and to be credible and have people really listen to the message she MUST tell her own story, admit her mistakes and vow to NEVER repeat them while remaining vigilant to do something to change the industry.

If she doesn't then all she is saying is "do what I say, not as I do" and we all know that that never works.

Re: Oprah April 4th.

Well, I can't speak with absolute certainty where Oprah got her three labs. But I did see the show where she and Stedman went to a home to get the two puppies and left with all three. They appeared to be in someones HOME and the mother dog was there in the house as well.

Oprah is a big animal lover (well dogs in particular)....so I'm having a hard time believing she would buy from a puppy mill then have a show against them. Unless of course, she discovered this about her own dogs later, and felt the need to speak out for all to know.

Hopefully, this will be clarified on the show.

What do you think a "Backyard Breeder" is? That "home" had a yard full of dogs and crates (cardboard boxes?) in the home full of puppies. There were "dozens" of puppies to choose from (Oprah's words). The breeder allowed strangers to tromp through her home and handle pups. Has the breeder never heard of Parvo (a disease one of Oprah's own dogs had) or does she just not care?

That breeder may not be technically a puppymill but she is mass produced of low quality animals that get sold to anyone with money to buy.

All I'm saying is that Oprah made a mistake and needs to stop saying she "adopted from breeders". That is foolishness and she needs to own up to her mistakes and use them to help educate. You DO NOT adopt from breeders. You BUY from breeders and Oprah bought from a BAD breeder.

Everyone makes mistakes. The intelligent thing to do is to be able to admit it and use your experience to make a difference.

Even that website says about "adopting" from breeders! If you're buying it- it's not adopting; why do so many people have it all wrong?

Yeah it is great and all that she is going to go to shelters from now on. But she still seems to think that getting a dog from a breeder qualifies as adopting...

Re: Oprah April 4th.

That video on Oprah's site was pretty pathetic. It's certainly not the worst puppy mill out there- but she adopted one because it was (I think even in her words) inbred and deformed? Not a mark of a good breeder. Not even a subtle mark of a bad one either...

For those of us who never watch Oprah, though- what time and channel is it on? I tried doing the Yahoo TV listings and it said there were no Oprah shows on at all on Friday, and the ones it did say were re-runs?

Re: Oprah April 4th.

Hmm, I wonder when this show will be aired here in down under. I know that normally Oprah is on channel 10 (not that that will help you Alusdra, as you probably have completely different channels) at lunch time, but I dont know how far behind we are - thats assuming we are behind. It is the 4th here today, but I doubt it would be aired here first as it is an American show -- if that even makes sence!
