Much like the "what do you do to help animals" thread, but with anything you do that's eco-friendly. A little bit goes a long way. So, what do you do? * I buy organic often. * I have a few organic articles of clothing. * I recycle paper and plastic. * I NEVER litter. * I'm a vegetarian- going vegan in a couple years * I use both sides of a sheet of paper. * I'm going to start using only lead pencils. * I have a bag that's made from 100% recycled plastic. * I have a compost pile (the pigs' poo never goes to the landfill!) * I have an organic garden. * I have shades that are made out of Jute (it's much like bamboo) * I hope to be able to get a hybrid car in the future. * One summer, I gathered literally hundreds of seeds from the maple trees around my house and planted them all around my 7 acres of woods once they sprouted. When there was a dry spell me and my brother would bring trash cans full of water on a wagon and water most of them. * I will use canvas bags when shopping whenever possible. * Every once in a while I pick up the litter around my property. When I'm done, I have 2-3 trash bags full. (We have neighbors that dump it in their field.) And usually if I see litter anywhere, I pick it up and throw it out. * A friend and I would carpool every week when we had the same "Point B" * And of course there's the little things like not running the water when I brush my teeth, not turning on lights when it's not necessary, etc. Last edited by gpigluver14; 03-09-08 at 12:39 pm. |

I would like to do more, but the little things I do are... *recycle aluminum, paper, cardboard, plastics #1-7, all plastic bags, glass, food cans, magazines, newspaper, and steel! *I never run water unnecessarily, 10-15 minute showers, one gallon flush toilet! *I never litter, my kids don't litter, and we pick up litter when we see it (most of the time)! *Looking into a hybrid truck for the near future! *Carpool the kids to school! *My kids use all one sided paper for their art, instead of new paper! *I don't eat meat (with the exception of fish)! *Piggie poo goes to the garden, not the landfill! *I try not to use bags when shopping! I usually have boxes in my trunk and I use those to grocery shop! *I am starting a compost pile for veggies peels and food gunk to help my garden grow! Less in landfills! *I use fleece instead of beddings like wood shavings (save a tree, use fleece). *I never dump my engine oil on the ground. It ALWAYS gets recycled. *I limit my driving by organizing my errands. I only drive across town if I have 3 or more things to get done down there! That is all I can think of right now, but I do enough to annoy everyone around me. And I plan to do more when I can!!! |

I have 5 minutes showers, well...I can be in and out whilst listening to MeatLoafs 'I would do anything for love'. We only wash full loads, and the hose is connected to a grey water hose so that that water ends up going onto the lawn or the plants. We have a veggie patch (fertilised by the piggies) I try and either walk/ride my bike most places (good for losing weight and keeping fit too!) I am a vegetarian. I use only Lush products. I use green bags when shopping (http://www.buynick.com/images/go_green_bag.jpg), or my canvas bag. I recycle everything, paper, plastic, tins they all go in the recycling bin. |

-All of our food is 100% organic. -We also grow a lot of our own food in our allotment, so less pollution is caused by trucks delivering it to supermarkets. -Despite both holding drivers licences, my husband and I both use public transport, and only use the car for very special occasions, when it is completely unavoidable. -We no longer recycle certain products, as recent studies have concluded that it is actually worse for the environment to recycle some materials, due to the gases produced in the process (will get my husband to find me the links/sources when he gets home). -We use renewable sources of energy when possible. |
