Miniature Bull Terriers?

My aunt was offered a free purebred pug puppy by a friend whose two dogs 'accidently' bred. My aunt and uncle refused as they did not think that they could have a dog at the moment because of a couple of reasons, one they rent a whole house but it is kind of like an apartment. It isn't theirs, and they do have a landlord, and two, they just turned 50 years old, and honestly believed that they were going to have children and it was a matter of time. (They wanted children very bad but were unable) But now, they wish that they had said yes. They finally realise children arn't in the future and they asked their landlord and he approved. They have a cockatiel, but they are hoping that a dog can kind of replace not having children. They live in a pretty spacious apartment/house and are financially stable. My uncle is pretty sure he wants a mini bull terrier, but he isn't willing to go to a breeder. I honestly think that he needs to be more optimistic and go to a rescue and see if there is anyone he falls in love with but.. I just don't know. Does anyone have any information on the breed?

Re: Miniature Bull Terriers?

I don't know anything about bull terriers, but I do know that there are many, many purebred dogs in shelters that need homes. There are also rescue groups that focus on certain breeds or purebreds, so I would do some researching to see what options are available in your area. Then your aunt and uncle would be able to visit the dogs and see what they are like before deciding on a certain breed. Purebreds are nice, but there are many great mixed breed dogs out there that might be perfect for them as well. Maybe you could talk them into visiting some rescues and shelters to learn more.

Re: Miniature Bull Terriers?

I am very close with them because my uncle, is my dads twin and my aunt is my godmother. So I will defiantly talk to them about even considering a mixed breed. They are pretty set on rescueing because even though they are financially secure, they don't want to spend alot on a dog.

Re: Miniature Bull Terriers?

Miniature bull terriers are kind of a new fad here. I have not heard of many in rescues, but Bull terriers are easy to find in rescues. Make sure to tell your uncle to do alot of research on the breed, they are very head strong, and can be dog agressive. But they are very sweet dogs.
Maybe in the U.S, since it is bigger there might be some in rescues. Good luck in your search.

Re: Miniature Bull Terriers?

Oh, they are cute. I'm sure there is a rescue for them, somewhere. Miniature Bull Terrier Rescue Though this site says there aren't many of them. Perhaps they would enjoy a pit bull instead? Any rescue will get doey eyed if you come in saying you want a sweet pit for an older financially secure couple.

It is very very good your aunt and uncle are set on rescue. Encourage it all the way. I would take them to a rescue to "personally see what the likelihood is to get a mini bull terrier and to put their name on a list and oh look! we're here, let's check out the dogs." I'm sure they'll fall in love with somebody once they get in there.

Re: Miniature Bull Terriers?

I agree, my aunt especially is a softy though unfortunately they don't think that pit bulls are good dogs due to stereotypes and they are completely anti pit bull.
