Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I mentioned this in another thread but it was really off topic so I decided to make a thread. Well I have found some nice forums on ferrets, hamsters, rabbits and rats by searching around this forum. But I'm still looking for a forum on birds (of all kinds), mice, chins, gerbils, farm animals, reptiles, degus, hedgehogs. sugar gliders, dogs, cats and any other animal I might be missing. The reason I am looking for sites and forums for these animals is that I am debating on starting a rescue well not really debating since it's not possible for a long time. So I really just want to learn about these animals even more since I want to volunteer at a shelter so I should know about them. I might even be able to educate others so really it's just to learn about those animals.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals Good parrot forums are Parrot Strut and Second Chance Birds. Parrot Strut is only mildly pro-rescue/anti-breeder, though. Second Chance is very pro-rescue/anti-breeder. Parrot Strut also has a pretty good 'furry animal' section, though that starts to lean even farther away from anti-breeder. The only reptile sites I've been able to find with decent info are very much breeder sites/forums, which I think is against policy to post? I haven't really found any sites for the other small and furries since I don't have any, currently (and thus haven't looked). It's great to look into more and more info for pet care- it's a bit ridiculous how much misinformation is floating around- you have to read a lot before you can start to pick out the nonsense from the essential info.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals Thank you and yes thats why I came here and didn't google it I would end up with breeding sites and all kinds of info that would be probably wrong.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I'm also looking for reliable info on mice and dwarf hamsters, which we also have as pets. I feel like we're probably doing the some things wrong with them out of ignorance.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I found a pretty good one for cats, About Cats - All About cats and kittens - Cat Care - Cat Behavior - Cat Health. They might have one for other pets too on the About network. I haven't found anything I disagree with strongly on this site, though I might have missed something.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I recently found this one about mice.... good care info and forum (very hot on big enough caging, discusses safe beddings, company and intros etc), plus a rehoming section. All About Mice

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals Hamsterific has some good hamster/dwarf hamster info. I've heard chinsnquills has good info on chins but from what I've been told they also have a breeding section. I haven't visited there myself.

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I show chickens pigeons and ducks so try going to BackYardChickens.com - Raise Chickens, Build Chicken Coops, Hatch Eggs it is an awesome website with alot of good info. Chickens need to be fed and watered daily, toenails trimmed about 3 times a year, and spurs trimmed. Males and females can live together but eggs will be laid and whether or not they are fertile beats me! Chickens can be housed in small conditions and very loveable. Pigeons are the same way but they only lay 2 eggs between 40-44 hours apart! Ducks are the same again but females of any other way can be housed with males of the Muscovy variety because the Muscovy breed can only breed with other muscovys! Hope it helps!

Re: Looking for reliable info on all kinds of animals I just saw that about.com has a full exotics section including a section on guinea pigs. I was fully expecting them not to have any decent information but they cite this website and guinealynx pretty frequently. They don't stress the need for a C&C cage as much as preferred but at least they mention it and tell you where to get more info. Exotic Pets Pet Guinea Pigs - Feeding, Cages
