Horse riding

My friend zoe wants me to start horse riding with her. She used to do it as a kid but she's forgotten everything, so we will both be starting from the begining. Are there any horse riders here? Is it fun? I've had bad experiences with horses in the past, so I'm a little nervous...

Re: Horse riding

I love horseback riding. Its the best. My grandma has horses that she lets me ride. If you are takeing lessons you have nothing to worry about. They wouldent put you on a horse that you cant ride.

Re: Horse riding

Bad news... my mum said that the lessons are too expensive. So, I'm trying to convince her. Hey, she said that I could never get pets, and here I am with 2 guinea pigs =)

Talking Re: Horse riding

Hey...I ride horses. I ride VERY competitevly. I do it as a sport, not for fun.
I am currently doing dressage, and some jumping. You can get seriously hurt from horses, and die. Not trying to scare you or anything. LoL Does your friend just want you to take lessons with her?

Here are some horse sites:

www.horsecity.com

www.horses.co.uk

www.thehorse.com

www.horses-and-horse-information.com

Hope this helps

Re: Horse riding

Yes, we just want to learn how to ride a horse, but only as a hobby.

Re: Horse riding

It's fine to ride competetively, just try to have some fun Em.

I've tried riding a couple times. Once, the horse I was on was really hungry. The people that knew what they were doing (ie the counselors, or whatever you call them) kept telling me to pull his head up, because he was eating grass. Well, I tried. And tried. I had blisters on my hands, and I was bleeding, but they just said I wasn't pulling hard enough. That ended that.

Re: Horse riding

aww, mn. Must have been a hungry horse!

I'm still trying to win my mum round the idea. I said that I would pay for some of it, but still I keep on getting the same answer. NO! I may ask zoe's mum to phone mine. She may be able to persude her.

How long of a lesson do you want to take?

How much is it?

Re: Horse riding

That sounds like a good plan, Piglet.

Just making sure, Em! Some people take riding competatively to the extreme. Have you heard what happens to old racehorses?

Re: Horse riding

Yep. That's some pretty sick stuff if you ask me. For anyone that doesn't, well, you probably don't want to know. So what do you compete in exactly?

Re: Horse riding

Mn, the lesson is an hour long, and its 'semi private'. It will only be zoe and I in the lesson. Its 18 pounds. I've even offered to pay nearly half of it. I don't work but I figured I could save 8 pounds a week by not eating and keeping my lunch money!

Re: Horse riding

For so long (like 4 years) my life was dedicated to horses. Thats all I did, rode them, spent time with them, cleaned stalls, read books about them etc. but then the people that I took lessons from moved and that all changed. We knew the people so they didn't charge me for taking lessons from them. After they moved I had no contact with any one involved with horses. I loved it while it lasted though!
I wanted to be a jockey soooo bad. I was obsessed with horses in general but loved horse racing. I know some people take it too far, but for me I don't know what it was about it but I loved it! I also liked jumping too but not as much as racing. I guess horses and horse racing were a major obsession for me . I still watch all the horse races that I can on TV, and jumping. And read tons of books about it. But I haven't riden a horse since our friends moved away ... I was miserable thought I would never get over not riding horses. But I did. And accepted that I would never get to be a jockey like I wanted to so badly. I just hope maybe when I am older that I can have a horse of my own. I am still a tad bit sad that I can never be a jockey but oh well, it's too late now I am too old ( sounds weird).... But you have to start young.

Piglet convince your mom to let you take lessons! Horses are awesome!
