For English class we have to write a paragraph/essay on the question: Did man create God...? What are yall's opinions, positions, arguements one way or the other? Please try to back up your position, don't just state it blindly. I am asking because I want to see what each side states (mostly though to hear the side opposite from mine)

Re: English class question As I'm sure you know, there is no answer. This is a philosophical question and there is no answer as such. However, I will give you the main arguments for and against, without getting into my personal beliefs at all. Yes: There are other religions in the world that originated before Christianity, so therefore we must have created God. Also, we are the only life that we know of that actually worships God, and has religion (that we know of). No: There is evidence showing that the events in the Bible actually did happen and are very credible. (Yes) Counter: They could have been based on truth, but skewed to keep the religious people on track, to try and show that there was more evidence than existed. How can you say the Bible isn't just some novel that was highly based on true events, yet skewed the real truth to add in God? That's where I'll leave off, pretty crappy and I'm sorry, but I'm not particularly in a thinking mood. I think I have the flu. Sorry about that! Good luck on your paper!

Re: English class question Ohhh this is a sketchy topic, but I'll try to answer it the best I know. Yes I do believe that Man created God. Mainly, because it was founded in a desperate time in history where people were in particularly bad situations in life and wanted to find a way to make their lives seem more fulfilling. There was disease, extreme poverty, and the rich were taking advantage of everything available at the expense of the poor. Then Jesus came along telling the poor that their lives were valued and that the rich would experience punishment because of their behavior. This made the poor happy to hear, and since they made up the majority of the population they followed this belief with hope in mind and it spread in vast popularity. So people believed in God/christianity as a means of hope quite plainly ( still like that today). And despite the Bible claiming all events represented in its pages are true and accurate, I can't help but think that is was written by people who did follow the teachings of Jesus, hence it could be exagerrated and biast, and it's gone through so many translations and rewritings over the past centuries I wouldn't doubt if some of the passages were altered. That's my opinion simply stated, hope it fits into what you wanted.

Re: English class question Exactly. I'm not saying one or the other, it's like the topic of whether or not our destinies are predetermined or not. It doesn't really matter all that much (the God question does more though), and you just have to live life how you would regardless. Sorry, but I just am not in a thinking sort of mode... I'll try to think tomorrow!

Re: English class question I think that man did create the idea of God, because it gives people hope and makes them feel like they have meaning, and it can actually really be good for some people, and there are tons of religions ou there, so if there really was a God, wouldn't He want to show people the "right" religion? Also, it would have to go against everything science has solid, concrete answers too today, with proof backing it up. I also want to say that we should be careful on this forum, so as not to insult anybody's religious beleifs or anything like that. Kind of a "Discussion", not and "Arguement"

Re: English class question Eek, I don't really have time to write a philosophical paragraph right now, but I do suggest you make sure that this topic stays on track. If it strays it could lead to religious comments, etc. and could get some unsuspecting member banned. Oh well, just a tip!
