I've got a new kitten. I was on my way home from the gym last week, and I saw a sign that said, "Free kittens," so of course I had to stop. There were 4 kittens and while they were all cute, one of them looks just like my current cat, Oscar, whom i adore, so I took that one home. I told my husband, "Look, I found this kitten under my car at the gym!" I figured he couldn't refuse to house a poor, helpless, abandoned kitten. He looked at me and said, "Tell me the truth." So I had to tell him that I sought out the kitten. At first he said we could just house it while I tried to find it a new home, but now he's saying we can keep it! I'm very happy. I'm not quite sure if it's a boy or a girl. I'll be taking it to the vet on Monday to find out for sure. And we don't have a name yet. I'm torn on what to name it. My mom thinks I ought to name it Felix, since I have an Oscar (you know, Oscar and Felix, the odd couple), and I kind of think it should be named "Mini-me" since it looks like a much smaller version of Oscar. My husband for some unknown reason wants to name it Rusty - which I hate. So I need some help thinking up gender neutral kitten names. It's about 6 weeks old, and it's a grey and black, long-haired tabby. It's skittish, but very playful - it loves to pounce. Any name suggestions? |

Aw, s/he sounds really cute! And kind of like one of my cats - she's a grey tabby and also "playful" ie running up your leg - when she was a kitten anyway. She's called Fizz - this is because she decided to have a nap in the wine rack, above a bottle of Champagne Last edited by FoolOnTheHill; 05-10-07 at 11:55 am. Reason: Add |

He/she should be called Madison. Works with the name Oscar and is good for a boy or a girl but not as obvious as Felix. Of course there is also De la Renta or Mayer |

I like Felix, but I had a cat named Felix before,so I am byast. Other than that I have no suggestions. We got a new cat last week, she is 10 and her name was already Priscilla, when my 2yr old says her name it sounds like chinchilla. So now her name is Priscilla chinchilla. Hey how about Chinchilla! |

Oscar and Meyer. I love it. I think I've found a name. I haven't posted any pictures because I don't have any. My husband's newest hobby is photography, so he bought this really great camera. Pretty much all you have to do is have a pulse and it takes fabulous pictures. He's going to take some of the two cats together; I'll post them as soon as he does. |

Well, my husband nixed the Meyer idea. I'm so sad because I thought that was hysterical. He likes Grover for a name, so I think Grover is going to end up being it. We both keep calling it "Kitten" though, so maybe "kitten" will stick. I'm going to attach a picture, hopefully, if I can make it work. |

Kitten is a very cute kitten. How about VJ's other suggestion of Madison? It's gender neutral and goes really well with Oscar. Have y'all figured out if Kitten is a boy or a girl yet? |

I really like the name Madison, but we have always considered that as a name for one of our future kids. So I feel like we can't use it for a pet because then the kid would feel like we named them after the cat. Which is not bad ... but might be a little strange. I still can't tell if it's a boy or a girl. I think it's still a little too young to tell for sure. It sure is cute adn sweet though. And it loves to play. Especially with toliet paper. It's shredded about 3 rolls in the 2 weeks it's been here. My husband calls any area of the house where the kitten is the "pounce zone." |

If you call it Kitten now, will you call it Cat when it grows up? |

Ha ha - probably not. My other cat's full name is "Oscar P. Kitten" (the P stands for precious) and I still call him my kitten. I think when the right name comes along, it will hit us and we'll call the kitten that. Knowing if it's a boy or a girl would help a lot. I just can't tell - isn't that weird? |

Wow - what a beautiful kitten! And what enormous ears! Completely different to how I'd pictured him/her - and definitely not a 'Willow'! I'm not too good at sesame Street characters - I think Big Bird is the only one I could name! I like Madison too! |

I'm so torn about the name. I would sort of like to call it Beaker (after my favorite muppet character) but my husband has sort of nicknamed me Beaker because he says I sound like Beaker when I get mad (MEEEP!). It doesn't really feel like a Grover to me, and like you, jarbax, I don't know of any other Sesame st. characters. We've had this kitten for almost 2 weeks now and it still doesn't have a name. It's driving me mad! |

That kitten is adorable!! It might be a Persian mix because of the longer hair. I have such a soft spot for gray cats considering I have one and my neighbor has a gray too. I love the name Madison! It must be so hard to pick though, now that you have so many ideas. |
