Assuming you are carefully following the socialization rules posted over at Index of / then probably a couple of hours. Just to make sure that everyone has decided who is who.

Is it safe to assume your new cage is large enough for two boars, that you have provided two of everything, unlimited hay and plenty of hidey's for everyone?

Oh..it looks like it's been a couple of hours already --

how is it going?

Re: Introducing my 4month old piggy to a one yr old piggy

You seperated them because they were making noises? Why? Seperating them once they have started establishing dominance because YOU were getting stressed only serves to make them start all over again the next time they are put together.

The younger one is freaking out because he liked your older pig, and they were starting to become friends. Noises, chasing, a bit of hair pulling, light nipping, and even mounting are all perfectly normal dominance behaviors. You really don't want to seperate them unless they are actually fighting and someone gets hurt or it looks like someone is about to. Especially with males, you will probably see some exhibition of dominance behaviors for their entire lives, and with the younger one just now hitting puberty and having a rush of hormones, you might see it for a few solid months.

Your best bet is to give them a couple more hours of floor time, clean the big cage again to make it completely neutral, put them back in it, and leave them alone to figure each other out.
