New foal

I awoke to a new baby this morning. My horse (actually a POA-Pony of America, but she looks like a horse) gave birth to a baby girl (filly) and she is just beautiful! She is a product of my horse jumping the fence last July 4th weekend and ending up with a stud with a very pricey stud fee. I will now be making some monthly payments for a while because you know the old saying "Good fences make good neighbors". I think paying for accidental impregnations will probably make for a good neighbor too, it doesn't sound nearly as catchy!

Congratulations! Foals are SO cute. My riding teacher breeds Thouroughbreds and those babies are adorable!

Re: New fole

Sounds like your horse wanted to celebrate July 4th as well! I hope you keep her contained now.

When do we get to see the baby pictures?

Re: New fole

Your a better woman than I. Your neighbor would have a very hard time convincing me to pay him for an accidental pregnancy. We'd probably end up in court. Congratulations though. Any possibility of pictures?

I wouldn't pay if his stud jumped into my paddock. But if it were my horse that got into his studs, well, that's my fault.

Dangness needs to pay (as she already said she is) since it's ultimately her fault her horse got out.

What if the horse got out and decided to ruin a farmer's crops nearby? Dangness would have to pay for the damage right? Well, if you consider that her horse got out and "used" the other horse owner's (ahem) services she still has to pay.

Re: New foal

Congrats on your new foal. I had to fix the title of your thread because foal is well spelled "foal" instead of fole.

Percy's Mom, I'll take pictures and meet Susan 1/2 way again so she can vouch for my filly! I just learned that the port alone wouldn't be enough to transfer my pics. Her hubby flipped open this little hidden flap on the camera that I didn't even know was there! Anyway, we have lots of new fencing to contain all the horses and we are not leaving this 4th of July. The fireworks scared her last year and she pushed it down.

That's true. I really didn't think about it. I'm really glad I don't have to deal with those situations.

Re: New foal

Ly & Pigs: Thanks so much. I dumped a guy in high school for bad spelling. He is now a lawyer. Feel free to fix my spelling anytime. I really can't believe I spelled that incorrectly. How embarassing!

On the foal: I think it's funny how many people think it was an accident and I should not have to pay anything. Technically, I am at fault and I can't stand the thought of dodging responsibility. I don't mean to sound preachy, but there seems to be an epidemic of faulty ethics and I have enough trouble sleeping as it is. I would hate to have a reason for my insomnia! Plus, she is so cute and also proof that some of the most prescious things in life are accidental.

Re: New foal

We have lots of ideas for names. She got her mothers strawberry roan coloring with appaloosa marking and a white blaze. So far suggestions and ideas are: Ginger, Honey, Betty, Clemintine, Fiona, Shortcake (Mom's registered name is Shorty's Prescious Rose) Shaggy, and my daughter suggested Polka-Dot. I wanted to name her "Shorty's Summer Shag" and call her "Shaggy" but I seem to be the only person among family and friends who thinks that cute.

Re: New foal

Maybe I am just dumb when it comes to horses but I just don't get why you would have to pay. It was your horse that got pregnant, all his got was a good time. If it was his horse that got pregnant that would make sense to me to cover whatever vet bills and such.

Re: New foal

Even though it was accidental BG, it was dangness's horse that "initiated" contact with the stud horse. His horse's "good time" would have been a wasted act according to the other owner if he's keeping him for breeding. If the other horse had come to her, he would have just had to suck it up and deal with it.

Re: New foal

I guess since I am against intentional breeding that is why I think it is stupid. But at least she is doing the right thing and paying for it if that is what she is supposed to do.

Re: New foal

Actually her hopping the fence like that could've seriously endangered the stud. Even if she (the mare) had wanted the stud she could have seriously injured him. Thats probably part of why she has to pay the stud fee.
Normally breedings when they're paid for are watched carefully if they're live cover to avoid potential injury to either sides.

Re: New foal

Not to mention that Dangness could have gotten sued (even if the stud wasn't injured).

If that stud was a racehorse or eventor and it was racing/event season him being with a mare could have destroyed his racing/jumping ability for a while. With some stallions breeding takes the fire out of them for a while and a racehorse/eventor simply will not do as well.

In a case like that Dangness could have found herself sued for something like"loss of income" while in actuality it would be considered damages.

Besides, if this is a valuable stud and word got out that a mare jumped the fence, bred with the stallion and the stud owner waived payment I think that the stud owner would start to find a lot of "lost" mares in his pasture in the morning.

I think Applesauce is a cool name. If I ever own a reddish animal I'm totally naming them Applesauce.
