Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

I have a kit to make a cute TSW stuffed guinea pig with. It would only take a couple of days to sew him up. He could be the newest pup in the oddly spaced litter of boars named Charlie.

Getting together some items for his travel box would be a snap. (pictures, too) It would mean that the adventures of Charlie would NOT have to end?

We could keep him going? Moderators, what do you all think? The various Charlies have been this far?

Please, huh? Please huh? Opinions anyone?

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

I was just thinking, instead of sending Charlie's travel adventures stuff with him to the next person, we just send Charlie to the next person and photos and bit's and pieces from when he was staying with you straight to T (?) instead?

We still run the risk of losing Charlie, but at least all his documents wouldn't be lost.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

Aertyn, that is a sensible idea! I feel quite agrieved personally that the kilt and sporran I tailor made for Charlie has gone missing, and that the postcard I searched high and low for on our Highland holidayhas also been lost with Charlie.

Ofcourse, there were also the drawings from children, Indian keepsakes and all the other postcards from all the previous members. Not to mention the two Charlies themselves!

I think that it would be a real shame for everyone else to miss out on seeing the places Charlie had been, however it is a double - loss for all the personl bits and pieces to go missing too.

Ho hum.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

I have a white (cream) version of the original Charlie and Charlie II (Charlie and Charlie II were brown; the white one is identical but with cream hair instead of brown). It's been in the pigs cage but a good wash and he can be on his way within a week. Its the closest match you'll get unless someone has another brown one.

As far as souvenirs go, I think we'd best leave them. Once Charlie III has finished his adventures I can do a collage of his best pics from each visit to members and post them out to everyone who looked after Charlie properly and sent him on.

I for one am very disgruntled that he has gone missing again. Not just because Charlie II was the one I donated to the cause, but because there should have been quite a few souvenirs and items with him which people put time, thought and money into. And I daresay quite a few people have already sent their donations to T in anticipation of Charlie's arrival - maybe even ones who werne't due to get Charlie for another 5 or 10 stops.
There needs to be stricter guidelines on who can have him. Personally I've never seen a post by candypigpig, which tells me she isn't as active a member as I would hope anyone involved in Charlie Adventures should be.(And yes I understand commitments outside the forum but it takes all of 5 minutes to type "There's been a delay in sending Charlie out, but he'll be mailed on < such a date >")

Let me know if I need to be getting Charlie III ready to be sent out. He'll go straight to the next person on the list unless we devise a new list with fewer, more active and reliable members on.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

It seems like we have several good ideas about continuing Charlie's adventures. I wish one of the mods would weigh in on this.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

If people want to continue, then I think that's a fine idea. Daft and PM were the original organizers, though, so I'd defer to their opinion.

However, I do agree that we need to prune this list. I'm sure there will be some disappointment and hurt feelings, but I agree with CCC ... I think the rest of Charlie participants should be members who participate actively (perhaps at least a certain number of posts per day/week), who have been a member of the forum for a significant period of time (3 months or more, perhaps) and perhaps we should even require a specific donation amount.

I also think CCC has a good point about the little things we include with Charlie; those things, while cute and fun, make it more disappointing to lose him. So perhaps we should also restrict it to just pictures with Charlie.

Daft and PM - awaiting your input on this.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

I really don't mind if it goes on but I think the post count should be upped to at least 500 for participation. I also think that if someone is inactive on the forum for more than a month they should forfeit their right to being on the list. I think Charlie needs to be sent using a form of postage that is trackable online, rather like PayPal's requirement for ebay items.

Sorry if this seems harsh to some of the newer members but the people who lost him told us they were reliable, too.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

Except for being a participant and wanting to host Charlie, I have no opinion on how or if we continue. I'm so thoroughly disgusted with what has happened recently, I'm not going to give my opinion any longer. If I need to go through the current list and pare it down or add anyone, I'll do that, but y'all can make up the rules how ever you want. I honestly don't care any more.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

Well, before proceeding any further it might be good to do a couple of things:

1) Update the current list so that we have a better idea of where the newest Charlie will be going.

2) Decide on who will be providing the newest Charlie. (I'm in the process of sewing a Charlie pig right now.) (cavy-cool-crazy also has a Charlie acquisition idea)

Maybe, one of us could send a Charlie pig on the Australian leg of his trip. The other could send a Charlie pig for the remaining U.S. and Canadian stops.

I just wanted to comment that it is possible to rack up posts very quickly whilst actually saying very little of value or very little that would indicate reliability. I would hate to see people posting for the sake of posting just to get onto Charlie's list (and I have no personal axe to grind here as I am below 500 posts but am not on Charlie's list and, as he's done his European experience, I'm content to leave it that way).

I don't think there's any simple rule you can apply to objectively evaluate reliability.

It's fairly obvious to spot those who are doing it, though.

I would really like to see this Charlie re-appear. Once was enough but to keep replacing him with others suggests that it's O.K. for him to "disappear".

I'm out of ideas. I think, like I said a couple of posts above, if he reappears he should go to Teresa and let that be the end of it. It would be nice if this was via PM as a thank you for her hard work in this.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

Well, Candypigpig has not been online since 3-7-07, and I'd assume if Coiler had received Charlier, she would have posted something.

Of course, you know what they say about assuming ...

I hate to say that the more I think about this, the more I'm starting to agree with Daft and PM. This thing is turning into a whole lot of hassle, particularly for them ... so I'm thinking now that we ought to nix the whole thing. If this Charlie shows up (which seems terribly unlikely at this point) he should go to Teresa, assuming she wants him.

It's a shame that no one in the US got to participate, except for Candypigpig ... it's a shame that it had to get ruined for everyone else. Oh well, at least Charlie got a pretty good view of several European countries adn Canada before meeting his demise.

Re: The International Guinea Pig Adventure

Well, I shall bow to the will of the majority. It kind of sucks that I did not get a turn with Charlie and have a chance to add to his adventures.

I guess that I shall just finish stitching my little piggy together and give him to my grandmother.
