Stupid Kids! why, Why, WHY?!?

[font=Verdana][size=2]I was driving home today and I got on my road and there were these three kids on ATVs. They were standing in the road, holding a beagle, and taking turns kicking him. I got out of my car and asked them what the heck they were doing (though I wasn't so nice about it) and they were like "teaching her who's boss." I asked what they meant and they said that she kept following them when they told her to leave so they were teaching her the hard way. I told them that HE happened to be my dog and I'd appreciate it if they would stop abusing HIM. I also told them that my uncle was a cop and I'm sure he'd love to give them some community service if they didn't get the heck away, again not so nicely... He isn't my dog and I don't have a cop for an uncle but it did the trick. They're old enough to know better. One was probably 15 and the other two were probably 12 or 13. I hate people... I'd like to kick them somewhere.... To make matters worse, Logan, as I decided to call him for now, I think has a broken pelvis. He's holding up his back leg and is VERY tender (probably from the idiots kicking him). I'm going to have to try to find a shelter or something that will fix it. I hope I don't have to euthanize him. He's so sweet. He gave me kisses when I put him in the car...[/size][/font]

That just breaks my heart, those kids are just....I can't even talk. I have tears in my eyes. I'm so glad you took him in. Too bad you couldn't give them alittle bit of their own medicine but couldn't charges be brought up on those kids? Do you know who they are or where they live? Obviously, it's major animal cruelty and could hold some harsh penalties. Good luck and keep us posted. I hope Logan does ok.

Here in Redneck Town USA we don't have any laws against animal cruelty that I'm aware of. I emailed the shelter out here to find out for sure. I know five years ago, before we even had a shelter, we were told it's legal to shoot any animal that's on your property, so I'm sure that if they still maintain those beliefs, beating them is okay too.

I think in my rage I may have mention being out of my meds too, which I'm not, but a little self- humor to keep myself under control.

Believe me, it's not just kids who are stupid. We are my dog's 3rd family. Jasper was bought originally to be a hunting dog. He wanted to play instead, so his owner tied him to the back of his pickup and dragged him down a brick road. The guy ended up with a fine and some teeny jail sentence. Jasper ended up in an animal hospital with several surgeries and rounds of antibiotics and other meds.

His second owners treated him like gold, but they were elderly and ended up having to go to an assited living facility, so they turned him back into the humane society which is thankfully a no-kill, and he was living with this woman who houses their dogs on a 200 acre old plantation until we saw him at an adoption stand and I HAD to have him.

I mention all this because Jasper is a beagle/bassett mix and extremely resilliant and loving. Give Logan an extra kiss and a hug from me. Please let us know how he turns out.

I'm 99% sure that the hunters who were here about a week ago dumped him because the first day I saw him was the day they were here. I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow and have him scanned for a microchip. I doubt he has one, but just in case. I am going to put up fliers in my neighborhood and place an ad in the paper that states "20-30 pound dog found. Call to further identify." If in a week his owners haven't come forward, if he isn't neutered, he will be. I can't tell because of his injury, he won't let me lift his leg. It looks like he either is and there's just the flap of skin left or only one testicle dropped. Definitely not two down there. I'm going to try to work with the shelter and get his leg checked out, hopefully soon because he's in a lot of pain. I can't pay for the neuter and the leg, just the neuter or part of the leg. I'm going to foster him until they find him a home. I'm going to ensure though that as Logan's foster mom I have the final say of who gets him. I don't want someone I don't like, who isn't qualified for him, to get him.

That is sooooo cruel! How dare thay treat a puppie like that! Some kids have no respect! Even though I'm a teenager I would have more respect for for animals.

As the "parent" of a one-year old beagle, Riley, this story breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes. If my little guy got lost I could totally see him following some kids wanting attention like that. No matter how mean they were he'd probably keep following them because he loves and trusts people so much. People think I'm overprotective because I don't let my dog outside unsupervised, well after this story I don't care what they think. Beagles like to explore and wander around and can't always find their way back so they get lost if left by themselves outside. Also just because a dog is a beagle doesn't mean it is a hunting dog. A lot of beagles just don't think like hunting dogs. I wish people would understand that. I also live in a redneck area so I understand your frustration. When will people understand that beating an animal teaches them nothing but fear? It blows me away how horrible people can be. Riley and I send Logan big hugs and wish him all the best and thank you for standing up for him. The world needs more people like you.

Its a good job you stopped because alot of people wouldnt, personally if it was me I would start kicking them up but im just a very violent person. These kids dont know how lucky they are that they wasnt reported to the rspca or whatever you have where you are. I hate people who hurt animals its not like they can defend themselves. God that has really ticked me off. like them make teenagers look realy bad and irresponable.

Its nice that you have taken him in. And hope it gets better.

BTW, you should call the police and make an incident report. They are juveniles-if the cops know who it is they will have to talk to the parents. Kids who abuse animals grow up to abuse kids and other people-police know this, judges know it. Just because they may not be able to follow through doing anything about it doesn't mean that they don't want to.

Poor dog. I send Logan my love. Those kids need to be punished BAD! I hope he has a quick recovery. I say you fix the leg first, then when you get enough money neuter him.

Poor, poor Logan. He's so lucky you came along. I hope he heals soon. For now, you can give him aspirin for the pain, although I'd imagine he's having a lot more pain than what aspirin can control. Keep us updated on the situation.

I hate to say it, but our cops around here could really care less about anything. I've only met two I say are good cops and the rest just don't give a rat's behind. Until about a year and a half ago, we didn't even have a shelter. To my knowledge there aren't any laws against animal abuse other than any state laws that may exist. I've never seen those teenagers before so I don't know where to find them.

I took him to see the vet today and the vet says if he's still limping after about 5 days on Rimadyl, we'll do an Xray. He thinks it's a previous break that's already healed itself and he's just going to be like that. Running around in the cold and rain has probably aggravated arthritis. Perhaps amputation is an option that would make it less painful for him. It'll be something I'll discuss with the vet if the time comes. It's sad because a lot of the animals that belong to people I work with have had to have things removed such as legs and eyes and stuff. It's weird that it's like that.

He's such a good dog. In the car, he sits while we're moving and falls asleep while sitting and as soon as I stop at a red light he starts barking at the people in the cars next to ours. I also bathed him today and he layed on his back and fell asleep. I cleaned out his ears, he has an ear infection I'm going to get medicine for on Friday. I did his nails and he just stood still and let me do it. When I expressed his anal glands, blood came out so I got him on antibiotics for that. The vet is going to let me pay $10 a month for a year to pay for his vaccines and neutering, which is a greatly discounted price. I love my vet. He's awesome.

I bought Logan a collar (the one he had on was cutting into his neck), a harness (he chokes himself while walking and he needed one for the car), a bone, a bowl and a toy today. He doesnt' know what to do with the bone or toy. He looks at me like "okay...."

I use to think that giving a dog aspirin was okay, but I found out it causes liver failure or something. My vet yelled at me for giving it to my dog.
