Chicken or the egg?

Which one DID come first, the chicken or the egg? I think the egg, as another animal might of laid that egg, and just had a weird baby called, the chicken!

Any ideas?

I agree. Egg because where would the chicken have come from?

Re: Chicken or the egg?

I think the egg - another animal produced the egg, but a genetic mutation caused it to become a chicken

Re: Chicken or the egg?

I agree that it was the egg... if you think about it logically, where do "new" animals come from nowdays? Like a new breed of dog, for example. It comes from mixing two different dogs' DNA together, to get a "new" dog.

I think that two animals that were similar to chickens, but weren't quite "chickens" yet, bred together and laid the first chicken egg.

The end, hehe.

Re: Chicken or the egg?

Had to have been the egg. Chickens dont just appear outa nowhere and lay an egg. And there would have had to be 2 chickens to have a fertile egg. DEFINATLY EGG!

Re: Chicken or the egg?

Since I'm a Christian, I beleive the chicken, because in my beleif God created all of the animals on the....Lol, some Christian I am! I can't remember what day...But anyway, I say chicken!
Scientists say egg because the dinasours were laying eggs first. But, coming back to my religion, I believe that the dinasours were also created the same day as chickens. (I don't want to start arguing about dinasours though! And I think I mispelled dinasour....)

but if the chicken evolved from another creature, then it would of been a egg first anyways!

Re: Chicken or the egg?

I agree with kimmee, two birds similar to a chicken would of mated and I guess some sort of mutation occured, creating Teh Chicken!

Go me with the dork talk! That's what I get for learning it in science.

Re: Chicken or the egg?

Sorry, I agree with Maggie... chickens were created on the 5th day, along with all the other birds & sea creatures.

Im a christian too but... When were dinosaurs made???

If god created everything then he would have had to create those too.

And since some dinosaurs show "bird like" traits something and something got together and made an EGG which in turn was a CHICKEN. But were chickens around befor or after Homosapians? Cause if they were after id say we took gods job into our own hands and bread 2 animals.

Dinasaurs were created the same day, and then died later after the flood because there wasn't food for them. (sorry we're getting all religious!)

And I also believe that creatures adapted once they were created, resulting in the so many different animals. (So...I KINDA beleive in evolution. Kinda, because adaptation isn't quite the same.)

Re: Chicken or the egg?

Chicken... God made the animals therefore he made the chickens that mated and laid an egg. This is my belief.

And in evolutionary terms; Animals evolved over time. Genes changed over time. Gradualy some animal got more chicken like and laid eggs and had chicken like babies. If the egg came first from some creature that laid an egg and just happend to have a chicken baby, what did that chicken mate with to produce more chickens?
