Back pain Anyone have any suggestions for alleviating back pain? I have gone to the doctor over this, and he wrote me off with a prescription. Unfortunately its not doing much good. I am in so much pain that I can hardly stand up, I can't roll onto my side while sleeping, and cleaning piggie stuff is futile! Anyone know a good way to alleviate the pain, if not just temporarily? I have a hot water bottle on it at the moment which helps a bit, but there is no way I can go about the house taking care of what needs to get done :-(. Liz

Re: Back pain Go back to the Dr. and get a referal to a physical therapist ASAP! I injured my back last spring and couldn't get out of bed for a few days... after resting and applying heat, it still hurt so I started physical therapy... physical therapy did WONDERS for me! Most of the time when your back hurts, it's because some muscles in your body aren't strong enough to support your weight correctly, giving you bad posture. The muscles that are weak don't even have to be in your back to cause back pain! Like me, for instance, I used to not have strong enough stomach muscles to support myself, so my back was bending the wrong way; my whole pelvis rotated forward and it looked like I was pregnant because my back was bending so much... no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stand or sit up straight! After doing excercises to strengthen the right muscles, two weeks later I could stand up perfectly straight. It was amazing! I highly recommend going to physical therapy, it's a great way to help many problems especially back problems! I hope that whatever happens, you feel better soon! *hugs* take care! Kimberly

Re: Back pain I gave my doc a quick call yesterday (before everything closed for New Years :P) and he said that from the sound of things it sounded like my muscles were atrophied to the point where physical therepy would be a waste. He said to look into something like McKenzie stretches. Ug! Thats well and good once I am feeling better, but till then I am going to be the living dead, . Thank you for the suggestion ;-). Liz

Re: Back pain Ah, if that is the case then I suggest seeing either a massage therapist or a Chiropractor (sp?) They can help straighten you out enough that you can start to help yourself get better, at least usually.

Re: Back pain What about getting a really good massage? I have a friend at work that does massages and she knows how to work the kinks out. I injured my back last weekend and I'm still paying for it. I've been taking my Ibuprofen (800mg) but it's not getting better. Of course, I hate going to the doctor and that'll be my last call. I'm going to try the massage first. I also have friends who are Physical Therapists and that'll be next. Good luck.

Re: Back pain I was thinking about going to get a massage, but when I ask hubby to rub my back it hurts to the touch. So I am not so sure about a massage. But I think once things get a bit better it will be a good idea. I purchased some of those Therma Care heatwraps - and oh my! It actually helped! I thought it would be a waste of money, but I am glad I tossed some into the cart. The heat isn't really intense, but I think it does jsut enough to help. And being able to leave it on while I go walking around is so nice. I would recommend giving it a shot! :-) Happy new year! Liz

Re: Back pain I've totally killed my back - I have no idea what I've done, I've never had back pain in my life. Was a little sore yesterday but last night and now I can hardly move my head. Had to take the day off university and everything. I hate doing that, I feel so guilty! I could have gone but wouldn't have made it to the docs otherwise. Blah.

Re: Back pain I think you need to seriously talk to your doctor, he definitely is not taking it serious. If what bothers you are muscles then physical therapy is the thing to do. They focus on relaxing, stretching and strengthening muscles. If it's bones/spine problem (which I don't think it is, if it was you wouldn't be able to walk at all) then you have to see a chiropractor.

Re: Back pain The doc thinks I've pulled a muscle in my back - somewhere around my right shoulderblade. Drugged up on anti-inflammatories. It's a pain in the, erm, back...

Re: Back pain My back still aches but it's doing better. I'm excited cause a friend of mine has arranged for hubby to stay home next Friday night. My friend is taking me out for dinner, maybe a movie and a massage!!! Yeah! It's for my bday on Saturday. I'm so excited. I can't wait and the one doing the massage is my other friend from work. I've had one from her before and she's wonderful. And a night without kids, I don't know what I'm going to do. Oh yeah! Have a great time.
