The are very MALE guinea pigs, Who are 1 1/2 and 3 years old. I don't know why someone would put up an ad for guinea pigs they don't have, don't understand that. But just getting this information out there, that those guinea pigs in the picture are most definitely not up for adoption! |

| Re: Should we really make our own? WOW, really? That's so sad. I don't understand? I called her earlier today and she did say that the ones in the picture are not the ones she is putting up for adoption. Why would someone do this. Again, I was getting my hopes up. : o( Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate that. |

| Re: Should we really make our own? I don't get it, I have heard from her in email and she sounds legitimate. Maybe she is just using the pictures of your pigs??? I don't know but I am going to ask her what is going on. She is not asking for any money so what would be her motive?? |

| Re: Should we really make our own? Hey Sweetie, It's not your fault. So don't feel badly at all. You have been trying to help so much. I don't get the motive like you too. What would be the point? It just makes no sense. |

| Re: Should we really make our own? The $10 ad from Manorville is another SCAM I believe. Do not patronize those ads, please. They put up an ad every week with a new photo of a baby bunny or guinea pig. I think they are either a backyard breeder or something else very questionable. No rescue advertises like that, no adoption screening and advocating poor care standards. Their ads drive me crazy. So many people thinking they're adopting from them and they're just buying pigs. |

| Re: Should we really make our own? Petfinder pet list - Pets at Have-A-Heart Guinea Pig Rescue Have a Heart rescue in NJ has several female pigs that are not available yet. If I were you I would call them and fill out all the adoption papers. Then they will have you on file and when they get females in or those others are available they will call you. If they are a little far from you I am sure they would be willing to meet you halfway or something like that. It's worth a shot to give them a call! |

Have a Heart has several male/female neutered pairs which would be really good. Do you think they could help transport?? I'm in love with these 2! Adopt Peter&Carmel - Guinea Pig Small&Furry - Petfinder.com PetNotes |

| Re: Should we really make our own? Hey there. I contacted them and left my information. Hopefully they can find what we are looking for. I am sure some wonderful lovable piggies will come our way soon. I keep checking the sites too. Some require alittle more information..so I contact them for that. I need to make sure they are ok with children. Some say they require adults only. I guess they would be skittish around kids. I did see one big guy that was named Moose. It said he was not skittish at all and if we wanted a piggie that did not run away when trying to hold it, he's the one. BUT son wants a female thanks again! | Re: Should we really make our own? They have a ton of pigs, I am sure they would have a pair that would be perfect for you guys. Don't worry too much about the being skittish thing. ALL guinea pigs will run when you are trying to pick them up (little stinkers) but almost all of them calm down when you get them in your arms. Feeding them lots of fresh veggies every day helps them to bond quickly to you. Food is a great motivater for these guys. What you will want to do for your kids is make sure that you get the pigs out and hand them to the kids. Preferably while the kids are already sitting down. Your oldest should be able to walk around while holding the pig but I would not have the younger kids walk or stand while holding them. Pigs can jump! We like to get a towel on our laps first (because poopies and pee pee happens sometimes) and then hold them and give them a treat. As a rule, no matter how well behaved the kids are, you should tell them that they cannot reach in the cage and get out a pig unless an adult is around. It may sound mean for the kids but it is better for the pigs if there are rules set in place to protect them. |

| Re: Should we really make our own? Yes! you are absolutely right and we have discussed this with them. I told them that if they tried to get them out on their own ever..that they can really hurt or even kill the piggie if he takes a big fall. I try to be as honest as I can with the kids and they seem to get it. Our cat was killed when she got out one day and went in the street : o ( So they were forced to learn about death with animals already. It was really hard on them and I know that it hit home and that they will listen to me with this one. They are extremely gentle souls and I cannot wait to put a piggie on their laps and let them snuggle and pet them. They are going to be SO happy. |

| Re: Should we really make our own? Well, I don't think it's wise to skip CL all together. A lot of good people rehome their pigs there. Some people on CL treat their pigs better than some rescues. I think there are exemplary folks as well as exceptions to everything. So, I'm going to keep posting CL pigs in case you fall in love. I'll post my warning and then my list of tips which is a start to safely finding a healthy pig from CL: Here's an old disclaimer, sorry if some of it is pedantic; No excessive eye discharge (they naturally produce a milky discharge for the purpose of cleaning) No wet nose Normal bald spots behind the ear are the only representations of hair loss/hair thinning Nails aren't curled under or excessively long The guinea pig isn't frequently scratching itself (could be mites, which are easily treated) If a female has a prounounced aerial pear shape, she may be pregnant Remember: pet stores frequently missex guinea pigs. Check here to make sure you're getting what the ad implies. Make sure the teeth are even and not overgrown. Check here to see what to look and look out for. Read more about how a healthy piggy should appear here. All of GuineaLynx, including its forums, is an amazing resource for guinea pig care. (oh, and where ever you adopt a pig from, take him/her/them to the vet within the week. It will be good for your vet to know what your pig is like when he/her/they are healthy too, for comparison). This is my standard warning: If responding to a Craigslist ad meet in a public place, or go with a friend. Google the phone number of the poster to ensure it matches the name he or she gives (cell phones make this a little harder). But I think it might be a good lesson t |
