My first C&C cage, advice welcome!!!

Hello everyone, this is my first post, so please go easy on me,

Ive been on a couple of the forums now for about a month and i have to admit Id never heard of C&C cages before. I assumed, as most people do, that the pet shop knew what they were talking about when they advised me to buy a Nero4 cage for my 5 pigs... Obviously i now know that its far too cramped for my princesses so I've decided to construct a C&C cage.

The girls are already in their element this month because ive changed from woodshavings to newspaper and hay, then to vetbed.. they absolutely love it and seem so much more content.

From the minimum requirements i believe i need a 2x7 but the more space the better so ive decided to make a 3x7 with an upper loft. Do u think this is ok?

Now for the advice part, what do you think is the best lining for the cage? i really dont mind the expense of getting new vetbed, but i do want what is best for my ladies and any ideas you have would be brilliant, im open to anything!!! Woodshavings are no longer an option because Munchkin has a bad chest and this seems to inflame it!!

Also, what toys should i get, i see alot of people write about the toys they have, so any ideas to keep my girlies amused would be fantastic!!!

If im honest i just want to pick your brains for you to inspire me!!!!

Thanx very much in advance, Gemma and the Girls, xxxxxxxx

You really have to experiment when it comes to toys. Two of my pigges absolutely love to push things around with their nose, especially large loofahs. Try ferret balls that rattle.

HI there,
I am using fleece as like a carpet in our cage and then I have small plastic bins in there with carefresh. This is where my piggy does most of her bathroom stuff.
I think a 3x7 is a great size!

For toys mine like toilet paper tubes (be sure to cut them down the length so they don’t get stuck). They sometimes even become pigurtles. Pig + turtles when the climb in and the tube gets stuck on their back. I put a little plastic football in and they checked it out then only ever touched it when it was in there way. I just got them a 4" drain pipe T connection form Home Depot that they like to climb through. I’m thinking of getting two elbows and some pipe and setting it up at the end of their cage so they have a bigger tunnel to crawl through.

Re: My first C&C cage, advice welcome!!!

Mine love to have tunnels made out of a bent grid that is covered in fabric. Here is someone elses version: http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos...o/2792/cat/519
Also I fill a chunk of paper towel tubes with hay cakes.
A link to for hay cakes is Oxbow Pet Products
I also have bought hard plastic cat toy's and bird toys for them. Anything that can not hurt the pigs is ok.

The cage size you have picked out is wonderful!
As far as the vet bed, I have no experience with that. I do use fleece as beding and it is working wonderful.
Here is a link to learn more about fleece if your interested: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ect-study.html
