to build a top level, just make it out of grids. If you want to know how to make a ramp, there are pictures of some in the photo galleries |

Also, you didn't answer about the pet store. Please adopt, I'm sure there are plenty of homeless piggies in your area needing homes. Quote:
If your intent is not to breed them, you'll need to have one fixed, which will need to be set up, and which will also take time. If you can, it's much more preferable to get two of the same sex--they'll get along just as well as a m-f pair. Quote:
Thanks for your reply. |

weel, how are you going to stop them from breeding? because you know, i don't think that is a good idea, you would have to have a spay/nueter surgery and that's risky and you might have problems like that, why not keep them in a divided cage or something, or keep boars and sows, but keep them in seperate cages? |

Okay, your first question, the grids at Walmart contain only 16 grids. Including shipping, it's over $25. You're better off trying Target as you can get 24 grids at 14.99 or less on sale. Second: I think someone had advised earlier that you investigate a rescue or shelter to adopt a piggy. I would be more confident that a shelter/rescue pig was taken care of correctly from an educated individual, that it's healthier, non-pregnant, AND you'll have a higher probability they know what sex it is. You cannot expect that from a pet store. Also I think many shelters or rescues are educated in C & C cages, so perhaps they can help with your cage building. Please read thoroughly the following: http://www.cavyspirit.com/petstores.htm Try posting in "Cavy Chat" about this, and also post there for the food question. Good luck |

I agree, please try a rescue or shelter. There are many homeless cavies in Indiana needing homes. |

go to target. You get more cubes and cheaper. You can get 24 crates for 14.99. And costcos sells them too. You get 30 crates for 18.99. |

How many are in the 2 x 6? rescue, shelter and pet shop pigs all are the same and they get look at before they sale them in pet shops too Not for the most part, that's unlikely. I'm sure there are a few pet stores with educated staff, but I've only heard of, and have first-hand knowledge that any pet store staff is clueless about proper care for GPs. BTW, if they were educated, they wouldn't be selling animals, only supplies. There are three Targets in Fort Wayne, is that too far for you? Also, for rescues, I'm having someone check into your area. Rescues/shelters are sometimes willing to travel to meet you if you meet the application critera. |

If you don't already have your cage built read this. Big Lots may sound cheap but it's really not. I got my cubes there and it only cost me $20! I got an 8 cube set. there is nothing wrong with them. |

Ghetto2k4, please forget the pet store and consider a rescue or shelter. An actual rescue will guarantee the good health of your new pigs and will also ensure that they get along. Most rescues would be quite happy with someone adopting a small group of three or four. |

I have used pet store cages before and I was wondering if you could use the bottom of those to make the bottom of the cage? I would have to cut it down of course but would it work? |

This thread is over 4 years old. Try to pay attention to the dates on posts before posting on them. This discussion is LONG over and done with. There was no reason to reply and make it current again. If you have a question then it's better to start a new thread. Thread closed. Last edited by VoodooJoint; 01-27-09 at 06:31 pm. |
