Yes. When we think of what we want in a pet, we want a pet that likes to be loved on, cuddled and played with, a little fuzzy face that cheers us up when we are down and the bond we have with them makes us feel good.

What people don't understand that with some animals such as guinea pigs, or sugar gliders and the like, it takes a lot more time. We are not talking about an animal that has been raised and bred as human companions and helpers for centuries. When you get a sugar glider or any type of more exotic pet, you are not getting this. It's a wild animal that has no concept of being a companion or what we are feeling, it does not understand "No." or "That hurts." It is a scared little animal that is trying to survive.

Yet people go AWW it's so cute and get one, and then wanna dump it when they realize they are not getting an animal like a dog, that has been bred and raised by humans for centuries. People need to understand that bonding with these animals takes sometimes months to come around to us. It takes time, patience and true commitment.

Do people dump on their babies when they can't understand no or say Mommy I'm hungry or Mommy I don't feel good? Then why should we dump on a little animal just because of what it can't understand, and has not the capacity to understand or communicate to us?

I will take the bottle and wrap it in something soft to make like a nice cool pillow he can lean on. ^_^ Plus he got so excited about the water bottle too!! He popcorned and played with it a bit cause it's purple and it has a picture of a mouse and a rabbit and a piggy on it. :D

I posted this on the GL forum too, but I wanted to get an idea of who would use this. I think it would be fun and handy for those cavy slaves who have IPhones. My idea is basically for an IPhone portable version of the Guinea Lynx Cavy Health record book.

Basically what it would have is, you would be able to create a unique set of records for each of your pigs. This would include weight, records of any medications your pigs have had, you could keep personal records of vet visits, and there would be several ways you could view your pig's weight data in graph forms to give you an eyes glance at a possibly problematic weight fluctuation.

Also it would contain handy quick references for things like dangerous medications, poisonous plants, symptom checklists and so on.

So are cavy slaves out there who would use such an IPhone app? :-)

January 25th I lost my little piglet Dino. I had no idea it was going to happen, he was just a little guy but he just died for no reason I could see. He ate, was lively and chipper as ever. I was nervous however cause on Christmas day when I got him my cousin told me the shop he came from housed him with rabbits, I immediately thought, oh no. But then just thought, keep an eye on him and go from there.

Nothing seemed wrong with him at all though, so things seemed good till the Sunday we got back from church, and I went out to feed them and change their bottles. One look at the little Himi boy was all it took for me to realize he was gone. I didn't know how long Frankie had been wheeking, and he was wheeking really distraughtly. Poor thing. I felt like the most horrible piggie owner ever.

Long story short, I knew then that adopting from a rescue is so much better a choice. Even if a rescue is out of town from you or whatever. It will be so much more worth it, more worth it to me than what happened. All I wanted was for Frankie to have a little brother so he wouldn't be lonely.

Things didn't go as I had hoped though and I think Frankie is adjusting but he did miss little Dino. Frankie was really fatherly to him, whenever I came out Dino would scurry over to Frankie and Frankie would let little Dino snuggle up to him. It was the sweetest thing ever. I blamed myself and felt like such a let down to Frankie.

I was glad however to see a couple new members who had adopted and researched right off the bat. I hope more people get educated and adopt, so they don't have to go through what I went through, I just wanted Frankie to be happy but I felt like I let him down in the end for not adopting him a little brother instead.

I just don't want others to go through what I did, and see the hard way that adopting is the much better choice.
