If anyone ever figures out how to go back.. say even 15 years let me know.
I live in a tiny little apartment with my daughter (pre teen going on teen angst!) and my guinea-kids.
I used to live in roomy 3 bedroom townhouse before down sizing to my current divot of an apartment as a faster means of saving to buy a house. I don't like big houses so this should be working great. Only thing is that there is precious little room for everyone!
I moved to this place before getting my pigs and was woefully undereducated in them when I brought them home. Now I'm struggling to get them the space they need without sacrificing our own living space in a negative way.
My daughter's room is too small also. In some homes I see on tv their walk in closets are the size of her bedroom! I think that I should switch rooms with her most times as mine is more of a normal room size. With her going into her teens soon she will need more space.
I want us to be able to move out of this little place and into a nice home. It is also really depressing that at my age I am still renting. I see all these things that should have been done differently.
A coworker of mine is trying to talk me into going away on a real holiday this summer. It has been a few years since I have done that. It is hard for me to justify spending $$ on a holiday when I could be putting it to a down payment. She keeps saying how you only go around once, enjoy it. While that is true it is easier for her who has a husband, two incomes and isn't renting. I on the other hand have no hubby, just my income and am still renting.
Ok... pity party over.

I really commend you on your efforts of saving for a house. As nice as a vaca sounds, my priorities would say "save that Money"...especially the way the economy is now and I know how saving can be difficult. Everytime I try and save...something comes up and it's gone. I never lived in a townhome but sometimes I wonder if it's really better than owning a house. In some ways...home ownership is good but in other ways it's not. Investment wise...yes good, own space...good, taxes..not good...but interest write off is...home repairs....so not good hehe. My hubby and I worked between the 2 of us 2 fulltime jobs and a partime (we catered on weekends). We lived with his mom when we were married in 1986, had alyssa in 1987 bought our first and only home in 1988 at 22. It needed repairs galore. In 4 more years our mortgage will be paid (3 1/2 years per my husband). I have a 22 yr old who still lives at home, got her 2 year Associates and a new job at Olive garden and making more money than I per week (and I'm a nurse....go fig). My yougest is 19 and finishing her first semester at ESU a 4 year college in biologic sciences and just got a job at Petsmart and will be a small animal specialist there. (wants to be a vet). We had the most expensive start of spring. I know saving is hard and a tempting vacation is harder. We haven't taken a vacation since my 30th and I'm 45 now. We elected to wait. We decided the day we make our last mortgage payment, were're gonna celebrate and take a 2 weeker vaca in some tropical Island as a reward to ourselves. I thought too that as kids got older....it got cheaper. I liked it better when they were infants and my mortgage was only 700 dollars a month. We have a small 900 square foot ranch with a breezeway and a one car garage. We changed it over the years and finally remodeled our bathroom (has been same since house was first built). We were able to do it for less than 2 grand. I get tired of people making taking a vacation sound like a walk in the park when your in that type of position and they're not...it's not being to considerate. I'm really glad we own our home...don't have to worry about rent increases and nasty tennants that live above or below you. Your lucky your allowed pets. I had a pet squirrel in my first apartment and they terminated my lease for it. (I was 18 then). I don't know just how your cage is set up..are your pigs all in one pen or are they in a divided set up??? sorry for the long post.Posted 04-11-09 at 12:00 pm by pigsmakemesmile

No apology needed for the post length. It's nice to hear what other people have done and how they got there.
My priority is to own a home, but it's hard with others saying that I should be doing things like holidays. Even my mother is in on it. I called her and told her about the coworker who is taking her kids to disneyland. My mother's response was that I should take my daughter there. She knows how cheap I'm being with things so keeps saying things like "your saving all this money on a lower rent. You can afford 'enter item' " It drives me nuts. Funny how even at 35 my mom can still tweak me.
I am very fortunate to be able to have my pigs in this apartment. My landlords are the greatest. They know that I'm a neat/clean freak so I think that is why they allow it. Currently the boars are all sharing a 4x4 C&C. But I'm in the process of building a bi-level 2x4 to save on space.Posted 04-11-09 at 02:22 pm by Somanypets
