With the house officially on the market as of Monday our first home open will be on Saturday.

The dogs will be fine. I will take them down to the park or the beach perhaps, weather depending. The pigs on the other hand have been a huge concern for me.

There will be 2 agents there showing people around and providing them with any info, but anyone could walk into the room they are in and feed them something wrong or hurt them/pick them up.

I have thought of several options, from boarding (way to stressful, they would be there from Friday to Sunday and then back again the next week) to taking them with me (not a good idea with 2 dogs).

In the end I invested in a baby gate that allows people to look into the room, however should prevent people from going in there (at least little kids).

I will let you all know how it goes on Sunday. Wish us luck!

I would seriously consider investing in some extra shelving or just cable tie a bunch of extra grids together and make a top to the cage and padlock it.

It's almost a guarantee that people will be in there checking them out.

Unless they are free-range, it should be doable. Even if they are free-range, I'd get them in a cage and put a locked top on it.

Have you considered making a sign that reads, "Please do not handle/feed the guinea pigs," and putting it on the cage/door of the room? Also, if you told the agents that you didn't want anyone going near the guinea pigs, they could make sure that people stay away.

I agree with both CavySpirit and Noodles.

One thing with CavySpirit's is that people could bring in children who have like popcicles our something in their hands could still try to push it through the bars.

But if you put CavySpirit's and Noodles together then you have one safe piggy room.

P.S. CavySpirit, I wasn't trying to say that your idea wouldn't work, I'm just saying that it might happen.

We're selling our house too. We haven't had any open houses though...we haven't even had anyone look at it yet, but for when people do, I made a big sign saying "The Guinea Pigs Bite! Please do not touch them" My boys don't bite (unless you're doing something they don't like) but I figured it would at least discourage people from trying to touch them, or letting their kids stick their fingers in the cage. At least hopefully it will.

Maybe if you combined a sign and a gate. Though, some people may just step over the gate, it would though probably help keep kids out of their unsupervised.

    Anyways, goodluck!

Our first home open on Saturday went really well. The baby gate worked a treat. During the half hour the home open lasted 8 families came through, not as much as our agent wanted but a good start.

Because it was a small number, and with 2 agents there, someone was with a family at all times - so there was no problem with them going into the crews room. However I do like your idea T and will look into it further as the agents believe that next weeks will be bigger (for two reasons, one being that this weekend was a long weekend and people have gone away for it and the other being that it will have been on the net for longer so more people are likely to find it).
